  • What an inspiration to us all!!!!

I haven't enjoyed reading a thread as much as I have this one for such a long long time!

I can't wait to start a family - I hope I will be able to stay at home and feed my family properly like this.

Well done - keep up the good work - I feel quite ashamed of myself after reading all this.

P.S - Whats the deal on the strawberrys? Does your son just love them?

In the form of Grandparents :rotfl: God bless 'em :D
Had around 2 hours kip last night due to DS3 catching the lurg's and proceeding to shake me awake every two mins to inform me his 'nose was stuffed' . Got a hacking cough but it doesn't seem to be bothering him too much ATM..It's given him an excuse to eat copious amounts of his special icecream and cadge a few extra strawberries:rolleyes:
DS2 is on the mend now at last I live in a 3 storey house and the stairs are killing me! I think I might change my name tomorrow as if I had a pound for the times I've heard 'MUUUUM' ring out today I'd be off on a cruise tomorrow lol.Have sis in law + nephew and neice tomorrow but she's pretty good so will probably bring a MC D's in with her..

:hello: Sammy :D I needed a lay down myself after reading about your day hun!!! Did you manage to fit it all in??? My friend is diabetic and she's had probs with Vit B levels had to have shots in the end but its made her feel much better..she had itchy skin too, weird wonder if it's all connected???
Hope you managed to get your shopping done I love putting it all away and seeing everything fill up...*memorieeees*:rotfl:

    Day 12 was pretty peaceful

Breakfast was toast due to all the coughs and lurgies...

Lunch was mexican chicken wraps with lettuce from garden

Dinner was Burger and chips(nan cooked while I popped out!) for the boys and veg lasagne for grown ups!

In the end I only bought more milk as decided I could do chicken sandwiches and other stuff for a few more days yet for lunches :D So only spent £2.00
Total spend to Day 12 is £13.56 :j

Strawberries are the must have 365 days a year food for my youngest..He has Autism and our special kids can sometimes have erm..'different' appetites is probably the best way of putting it!! They tend to be very picky eaters and can get 'stuck' on one particular food DS3's is fortunately Strawberries as they're healthy! He has a real problem with textures of food, colours, skins e.g he won't eat peas now as they have 'shells on',sweetcorn is a nono cos its yellow...to add to this he is on a dairy free, gluten free diet which has helped his skin and gut problems enormously as well as his behaviour. His 'marmite' is a special one, bread is always gf/cf but he's been on the diet for 18 months now so it's getting easier to manage it:D
P.S Nan brought 2 punnets today and one to hide for tomorrow which is the only one he hasn't got to yet.. :o

Ohhh I see - sorry I am so nosy. You are lucky that he loves something as healthy as strawberries. You seem to cope extremely well.

Well I hope all the lurgys have left your house now and your 3 boys are back to full fighting health.

Like I said before - AN INSPIRATION!

I'm so pleased MSE is back up and running too! I've been following your thread D&DD and missed seeing how you were doing :o I've a similar store cupboard (based on the Tightwad Gazette approach) but so far I haven't HAD to manage on the bare minimum of buying.

You really are an inspiration :T
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    I just want to echo what Apple Mint says. I run my storecupboard on Tightwad Gazette principles too, but it is still really hard not to buy food every week even when there is plenty in the house. Your thread has inspired me to inventory all my cupboards(well I didn't have anything else to do this weekend:D ) I'm not buying any meat or fish until everything in the freezer is gone. This week I haven't bought any fresh veg. This was hard to do as it doesn't seem right not to buy veg every week. However, I did an inventory and found I had;
fresh - swede, carrots, onions, pumpkin and squash (free from my mum), a bit of broccoli, a few green beans, mushrooms, Chinese leaves, tomatoes, half a cucumber, red pepper
frozen-lots of peas, lots of sweetcorn, green beans, broad beans, braised red cabbage
a bag of mung beans for sprouting
several tins of tomatoes and cartons of passata

I've also spent a lot of the weekend looking at my cookery book collection which is pretty big, and thinking about how I use cookbooks and how they can lead you to spend more money on food you don't actually need. I mean the 'ooh that looks yummy, what do I need to buy to make it ?' trap. I fall into this trap everytime I buy a new cookbook. So, rather than a) buying glossy new books in the first place, and b) buying a whole new load of ingredients to make the stuff in them I'm now looking at the food I already have and thinking 'what can I make with this ? Is there anything I've seen in a cookbook that will inspire me or that I can adapt ? And finally, do I need a cookbook anyway ?

Keep up the good work D&DD :T
