I made this after I found a few tins of cherries in the cupboard and although the boys like to eat these just as they are I fancied something different..

    Black Forest Trifle
    1 pcket cherry jelly
1 choc swiss roll (cheapo one ;) )
14 oz can black cherries drained
    pkt chocolate instant dessert whip
    1/2 pint milk

    Double cream whipped, to decorate

Make up jelly cool slightly, pour over swiss roll.Spoon over half the cherries and leave to set.Make up the dessert whip and pour over chill again til set.Pipe whipped cream aroung the edge and pour remaining cherries into the centre.

Gotta go Darth Vader is attacking...back later

    UPDATE DAY 8
Had a good day today and did a fair bit of baking..Have an extra loaf cooling for FIL to take back with him and a carrot cake and a yoghurt cake so thats him set for a while til we see him next!

Breakfast was sausage sandwiches or toast..and tea
    Lunch was chicken salad sandwiches
Dinner roast lamb with all the trimmings (have quite a bit of meat leftover too!!)
Pud was meringues with fruit and cream..and strawberries!!

Had to nip to Sainsburys as the farm shop had no strawberries, luckily they were reduced from £2.99 to £1.50 so got 2 punnets..cravendale milk was on offer 2 x 4 pints for £2 so grabbed 2 of those to top up with too..I was a bit 'twitchy' going round with (horrors) a basket !!!!Saw quite a few special offers too but managed to drag myself past them (well OH just grabbed the basket and pulled me..)

I can't believe the dent I've made in my stocks in just a week, and the boys are off this week plus we have an open door usually during the hols. Its a good exercise in planning for me as there are items I've used up much faster than I would usually because I've been baking so much.I have underestimated the need for some and overestimated others..a bit of tweaking needs to be done for future reference..

TOTAL SPEND BY DAY 8 = £11.56p (flamin' strawberries!!!)

I am cream crackered and we've only just begun the hols!! Adventures started at 2am this morning with ds2 throwing up,which woke ds3 up and although ds2 was fine after,'Mr Bouncy' then thought it was morning
Finally got him to doze on the couch for 45 mins at around 5ish but been up ever since..Add to that 2 extras today, plus FIL popped in on his way home plus my parents came..its been like a madhouse..
Have an extra hungry teenager with hollow legs tomorrow (todays extras were 12 yr olds),so need to get some baking done but with ds3 home its rather ummm challenging :rotfl: Will have to make him up some bread dough of his own to batter methinks to keep his attention in the kitchen for a while..

Breakfast today was scrambed eggs on toast

Lunch was hot sausage rolls and crusty hm bread and butter

Dinner was yesterdays lamb with mash and peas (hm dippers for ds3..)
Pudding was lime marmalade sponge with custard or fruit salad.

TOTAL SPEND TO DAY 9 is £11.56 !!

Poor DS was not well at all..fortunately Doc came straight out *nearly fainted myself*
Bad chest infection was the verdict, got away with antibiotics at home rather than a trip to hospital this time though.DS has a dodgy chest due to an earlier bout of pneumonia and his 'twisty bits' causing his lung capacity to be compromised...lucky we caught it when we did!
He has enjoyed being pampered all day and I have gotten many more grey hairs..I have never had one of them with a temp THAT high before, was rather scary...

Meanwhile..amidst this chaos (OH at work..) DS3 decides it would be good to make cakes..NOW..RIGHT NOW...:rotfl:
We made those the fastest cakes ever known to man lol..at least he was contented then to sit and lick all the bowls, spoons and eat 9 cakes on the trot while I was looking after DS2...

FASTEST GLUTEN FREE DAIRY FREE RAINBOW CAKES IN THE WEST...
Chuck 3 oz pure d/f marg in a bowl,
batter like mad with 3 oz caster sugar,
throw in 2 eggs (picking out the bits of shell obliterated into the bowl by cracking them too fast...)
'Gently' chuck in 3oz doves farm gf flour
add 1/2 tspn gf baking powder
Prise sugar sprinkles from little fingers trying to guzzle the lot and add approx 1 tspn for the rainbow effect
stir like crazy and throw in the oven on 190c...
*Remember to remove said cakes after 10-15 mins before smoke alarms start to ring*...

D&DD - i'm glad the doc came straight out.. and also glad you avoided a hospital trip, and that you caught it when you did.. worrying about little ones who are poorly is not nice.

*huggggggggsss*.. have a rest tonight, i think you deserve it, after baking the world's fastest rainbow cakes..

d&dd loving this thread - some great ideas. perhaps given your recent situation you could curtail the open doors policy  as your immediate family come first - it's hard especially if they are keeping your boys entertained, but they shouldn't always expect a free feed. i didn't take offence when i was younger when my mum or my friends mum said your dinner is at 5 your friends can come round again at 6 etc.

hope your ds2 feels better today

    Hi there
Hope wee one is on the mend.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to you for posting all these smashing recipes, I don't know where your inspiration comes from! My cupboards are full to burst and some of these recipes will really help to use stuff up, going to try the black forest trifle, sounds fab!!!:T
Keep up the good work, don't push yourself too hard if the wee one is still poorly, remember mums need a rest too! Take care
    :j
    Thanks for all your help!!!:T
