Hi Sammy good to see you are feeling better,aw poor Ben bless him its a pain when they have to have special food,as I well know! There are however quite few lactose free products coming onto the market now which may help if you need substitutes.I saw something about a christmas elves site on here is that your new one?? Must have a look it might get me in the mood for Xmas..
Hi JCR glad to hear the tooths a bit better,it takes a while to heal doesn't it and then you still have to get the confidence back to eat on it after that!
Hi LMS my youngest loves to 'help' *not sure if thats the right word*:rotfl: with a bit of pastry he'll stand there rolling the same piece out for hours  All my boys have started young cooking stuff, the 2 eldest might not do it much now but at least they can if needed.Hope you have lots of fun!!

Had a lovely day cleaning  Got a huge pile of ironing to attack tomorrow as its built up where I've been in and out this week oh joy...
Baked some rolls today to save doing them in the morning as me and DS3 are having a taste test day..Got to keep trying to find things he'll eat as at the moment his diet is soooo limited :embarasse Its the savoury stuff he struggles with, there is so little he likes!
Breakfast was cereal all round today
Lunch was ham salad sarnies with fruit (ds3 only ate his strawberries  )
Dinner was hickory smoked chicken with jacket potatoes and corn on the cob
DS3 had a special burger and a roll with sauce in it
TOTAL SPEND by day 20 is £23.91 :jbut the loo roll store is looking a tad dicey

Well so far its not going great...we've made savoury scones (plain) and cheese and ham ones..other two love these but DS3's refusing to try them because they 'smell' :rotfl:
We tried a pasta salad which was 'worms'...rice was mouse pooh....so far the only triumph is the GF playdough :rotfl: oh well back to the drawing board!!0 -
D&DD, I hope you don't mind, but I was just browsing Amazon's new cookbooks and came across this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kid-friendly-ADHD-Autism-Cookbook-Gluten-free/dp/1592332897/ref=pd_nr_b_22/202-5197691-7152669?ie=UTF8&s=books Thought you might be interested
I'm loving this thread, it's very inspiring.0 -
Hi Thriftlady
Thats so kind of you to think of me!! We seem to share a passion for cookery books lol...I have this one already thanks tho I paid £16.99 for the hardback last year  Its a good book but very erm American..That said it does explain the science of the diet very well and very clearly if you are just starting out
The recipes do however use a lot of things we simply can't buy over here,or even substitute well. Lisa Lewis's Special Diets for special kids is another good book but again written from an American point of view cookingwise.
The one I would recommend for anyone over here is Marylyn le Bretons AIA recipe book (this is being updated at the moment for a reprint) Its written by an english mum and her other book is dietary intervention and autism which explains the diet also.0 -
:T D & D D,
I loved reading your thread :T wow, how much energy have you got?? what an inspiration you are.
I am a ld nurse and used to work with children, many of them were on the autistic spectrum. I worked with them for 5 years and I really do know how exhausting and all comsuming they can be, however you make it look easy.wow!!!
I laughed out loud, with your ds3 strawberries addicition/obsession. I cared for triplets, all of whom had austism, all they would eat, ever, was peanut butter sandwiches and chunks of cheeseThey all have foods which they like and enjoy and I say well, fair enough
I loved your jam tarts and home baking, you made me think of my mum, who died 11 years ago.... she worked in the school kitchens and she was the most fantastic cook, she made the most amazing jam tarts and they were just like yours :j
thank you love dorry x'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'

Thanks Thriftlady
Its hard when they have an allergy like nut or eggs though, as they are in so many things or the cross contamination risk is always there..I totally agree about the books too,I have a vast library of ones I never use which looked really good at the time!! I think they always cater for grown up gourmet food eaters not children or anyone with a normal taste in food:rotfl: Thats why I like the wartime cookbooks as they are much plainer foods which I can 'tweak' to suit..

Thanks DorryI don't know about energy I just lurch along as needed :rotfl:
Its funny isn't it how they get stuck on certain food
My mum's a great cook too she worked in the kitchens back when they used to cook stuff from scratch like your mum probably did.Her pastry is gorgeous and although mine is the same recipe it's still never quite as good...
Today has been a good day although we are still living mainly on strawberries and toast
Breakfast was bagels,sausage sarnies or....toast!
Lunch was really just some fruit and snack bits(cheese crackers) the boys were not really hungry..
Dinner was hm chicken burgers in HM rolls with salad and wedges
DS3 was still dragging his playdough 'snake' around the house so he had a late supper of shredded chicken with toast...and strawberries!:rotfl:
Total spend for 21 days (3 weeks!!) is £23.91
Will do a 'stocktake' tomorrow as freezer is running quite low now,loo roll mountain is nearly gone and we need more strawberries!!!0
