we're going to Lapland for a week in december
had a fab bargain with Inghams
The thing is, we've never been on a holiday thats been cold so haven't a clue what clothing to take!
ive had some thermal underwear and magic (!) gloves to go under ordinary gloves but not sure about anything else or, what to wear in the evening!
any advice (clothing or otherwise) would be very much appreciated.
thank you in advance!0 -
Hi fluffybunny, try looking at lapland.fruitbandit.com which was recommended by Curtlyb. This gives lots of information, also look at Levi.Fi which is great for webcams, skiing and sleigh ride details. I bought ski jackets from TX Max which were £20 for me and the children and £35 for my husband, we also bought thermal, fleece lined boots and thermal ski gloves too. Salapets were from Sports World and cost about £17.00 each. We bought thermal underwear from M&S (go through Topcashback). I bought fleeces from Asda (£4!!) and Polo necks, hats and scarves from Primark. We thought it would be better to have our own stuff and we can always sell it again when we get back. Not sure what to wear around the resort but the ski stuff is so comfortable I'm not too worried. I've got leggings and long jumpers for inside the hotel. When are you going, we are there from 2nd to the 9th.0

Great, thanks for that fluffyfifi!
I will look at M&S and also Primark and Asda.
We've hired the thermal suits and boots so its everything else I'm worried about . I don't want the kids complaining that they're cold!
We're there from the 2nd to 9th too! We're flying from Bristol, staying in the Levi log cabins. We've been looking forward to this for about 18 months. We booked to go last December but had to cancel because of my husbands new job. they wouldnt give him the time off! we re-booked last January.0 -
We are flying from Gatwick and staying at the Flying Reindeer, I'm worried about what to wear on the plane as I think it will be very cold when we arrive and it seems we have to walk from the plane to the terminal. Looks like thermals might be called for but could be a bit warm whilst flying.0
-
You need to walk from the terminal to the bus when you arrive, this takes about 2 mins, if that. I've been twice and both times I wore jeans and jumper on the plane. We had hats, gloves and coats to put on when we got to the terminal. We packed sallopettes in the case as even though it is very cold, the two minute walk isn't too bad and it is warm once you get on the coach.0

Thinking about it you do need to walk from the plane to the terminal also, but the airport is very small and the walk is very short.0

Lidl & Aldi do some stuff (kids boots this week) but they come and go each week........look online the the current offers
Tchibo.co.uk currently have a lot of ladies ski-wear (free p&p code for new customers), we've bought some stuff from their outlet shop in Castleford as well as the Trespass store there.
We also got some great boots, gloves and fleeces from Decathlon but they don't have many shops around (we went to Stockport)....
Fluffyfifi's list of shopping destinations is as good as you'll get, bit's from here.... bit's from there..... etc etc etc just make yourself a list that goes something like this and start looking now !
Hat (cover ears)
Balaclava (in case you run out of money & need to rob a bank)
Sunglasses (might need but not a great deal of sunlight in Dec but good disguise...see robbing bank))
Goggles
Neck Ring or Scarf
Base layer (sexy thermals ?)
Mid Layer (shirt/thin fleeces etc)
Jacket (wind proof etc not necessarily the thickest........... brightest you can get so people can see you coming when you're flying down the piste out of control !)
Gloves (no finger prints......see robbing bank above)
Inner Gloves (silk or thin)
Salopettes (leggings/thermals if not well lined)
Socks (thermal)
Boots (not boots for ski's)
Hand Warmers (ebay)
Lip Balm
Moisturiser (non-water....coconut oil recommended)
Beer (optional extra which i can't guarantee you won't drink before you finish shopping for the above)
lapland.fruitbandit.com gives slightly more detail etc etc etc
Good luck and we'll see all you guys for a £5 beer in Levi :beer:0 -
Is alcohol very expensive - is it worth stocking up with Duty Free at the airport? If we are all going to Levi we could arrange a meeting point on a certain day/time. Could be fun - we could all be brandishing our MSE stickers!0
