I don't think the virus would dare to come anywhere near your house, you are far to clean!
Joking aside I am pretty sure if for some reason you had to self isolate someone would be able assist. The local church,or Salvation Army would I am sure be very willing to either watch the children or deliver some shopping to you.Even a neighbour if things became really tough.
I agree with you about the shelf emptying. This is what happens with the media hype, the selfish and the ignorant think me,me me, put themselves first without even thinking of others. How anyone would need 900 toilet rolls for two weeks.Beggars belief.
I am 100% in awe of all you achieve and your children sound a real credit to you, and that is all down to you.You have my utmost respect and admiration for all that you have to battle with on a daily basis. You are a truly remarkable young lady and really deserve a break from it all.DLA you should hang your heads in shame!
In today's society of rampant consumerism and keeping up with the Jones's, you show the true meaning of giving and putting your family first.
You are an inspiration to many and should hold your head up high and be very proud of the truly selfless person you are.

As a work around, if you can't get your usual bread, you could make Jamie Oliver's quick flatbread recipe - They can be split like pittas and filled for sandwiches - the ingredients for 12 are 350 g self-raising flour , plus extra for dusting, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 350 g natural yoghurt - mix all together then bring together on a floured surface - then he just griddles them ( a frying pan would work, lightly wiped with oil). Just 1-2 minutes on each side they puff up (we use them instead of naans, pittas and flatbreads). I use full fat SM own brand yogurt and make half recipe at a time - Link is here if you want to see everything he says.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling. You've got lots of friends on here, so reach out if you need any help. We could even post a food parcel if necessary.
I think the supermarkets will probably catch up again in a few days, their stocking systems will update and supplies will be back.
Hopefully the media hype will settle down soon and stop making it worse for everyone."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee6 -

My son lives in Shanghai. They were on a lockdown (the whole city 21 million people) One person from each household was allowed out for an hour a day to go shopping.Everyone was calm, there was no panic buying no hysteria and no empty shelves.Shanghai is now back to normal, everywhere is open and there have been no new coronavirus cases for 10 days.
While I don't agree with some of China's regimes, in this respect they got it right.
There is no 24/7 news coverage in China, detailing minute information about the rise in numbers, what you should do, how you should wash your hands, how quickly it may spread etc..Unfortunately the media over here are causing hysteria and panic for what?A new mild flu virus. If seasonal flu was going around quickly, you would stay indoors and not mix with people. This is what the media fail to say. If it was reported as a new virulent strain of flu and to be vigilant about washing your hands, people would just take the information on board and carry on.
Put in another context, God forbid if there was another terrorist attack, corona virus would be lucky to get much more than a mention. I am pretty sure the people who have lost everything in the recent flooding have barely thought about this virus.
It is trying to rationalize and put things into perspective, which I know can be difficult if you are anxious, especially with your youngests immune problems.
Try and take on board that it is a flu virus, a mild flu virus. If you actually listen to the news, they report the facts which takes 30 seconds and for the rest of the time regurgitate the same 'news' that has been broadcast the hour before, the day before etc.
The newspapers are even worse.
The only epidemic at the moment is one of fear created by the media.Try and hang on to that thought.
My son said the biggest saving grace in Shanghai was to wash your hands with soap and water before leaving your home and washing them when you returned. Nothing fancy just ordinary hand washing. In a city of 21 million 306 people had it and all recovered.
I imagine within a few weeks this will cease to become headline news all the time.Remember the months and months of Brexit panic. That has now disappeared, as will coronavirus hopefully in the not too distant future..
I'm sorry you are finding that the cheaper brands are out of stock, that really impacts upon your budget. I hope the shops manage to restock those items soon. I understand why you're anxious Wannabe, but if littlest one stays at home then there it seems unlikely that she will catch it I would have thought.

Some great food for thought there from amanda. The media are loving it all at the moment and making things worse, they'll move onto something else soon no doubt. I can understand you worrying though, it's another thing you could do without at the moment.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

I tend to agree. Although it’s a serious situation are the media really hyping it up and causing panic buying? Obviously we have to be aware of the problems that it could cause but stocking up on some of the things that are flying off the shelves apparently. I really wonder! W, if you’re struggling with something let us know and we’ll do our best to help. You have lots of friends here.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.8

It is a worrying situation for you Wannabe and we fully understand about only expensive brands being on the shelves. Our local A was totally out of the usual loo paper and only had the more expensive brand in stock. They had no hand soap, gel, paracetamol or ibuprofen, even the antibacterial spray was low. Are the children having school dinners? I know you mentioned that they are not keen on them, but if they are not, could you suggest that they have school dinners as it may save a few pennies from your precious budget. If you need anything let us know and I an sure we can help. Social services should be making you a priority and please try to chase the DLA claim. It won’t help with preventing your little one getting ill, but it will bring a massive relief with budgeting. Take care.

Thank you.
Sorry I didn't really come back to say more. As I'm not sure what to say. My anxiety about it isn't going away. I really want to keep the older two home to be honest.
The stockpiling by selfish people continues. The local supermarket pictures of empty shelves actually made the news ha! The only thing the supermarkets round here are famous for. But it is ridiculous. The supplies I buy for youngest are all still over double the price. Which is concerning.
I feel like I need to reach the 25th. When I can feel a bit more on an even keel with getting prepared. But at the same time concerned that things will have progressed even crazier by then.
Hope you're all well x“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”7
