I can remember a teacher friend extolling the virtues of the locally-sourced, high quality food in the school dinners and encouraging me to sign my children up. I pointed out that once you added up the cost of one meal a day for three of them, that was something like 60% of my entire budget to feed all five of us.

Later I heard her explaining this to someone else, so I think the point had gone home. Perhaps you being brave enough to say something to your children's school will set someone thinking and they will be a little more careful about potentially excluding children from the 'fun' trips.

  • I've always found that I could never afford school dinners, especially for three children when I could do packed lunches at a fraction of the cost.

Schools don't always understand that some parents can be on very low budgets and what seems small amounts of money to them, could push you into not affording food on the table.

    Morning :)

I think pack lunches currently do cost alot less than school meals when there is more than one child. Its £1.40 a day for a normal school dinner which I don't think is bad for what they get. Although even if they where free mine wouldn't eat them :o

Youngest is away on her school trip I feel sick with nerves :o I know she'll have fun though!

    Hope everyone is well

    Hope littlest enjoys her trip.

I agree schools seem to forget that some are on tight budgets, also they seem to forget that a lot of parents work.

I agree that they forget that often both parents work and have to give notice to get time off. The amount of times I am given very short notice of events happening in the afternoon or straight after school. I don't even know when the school is planning to put on DS Christmas play this year!

I hope littlest has a great school trip today :)

Hope littlest one enjoys her school trip. £1.40 for school dinner is a good price. When DS left primary they were paying £2.10. He never had them though, he's too fussy. Not long now before you can breathe a sigh of relief that DD is back and enjoy listening to what she got up to. :)

I'm counting down to school finishing time :o 1 hour to go :D I feel like I'm the only parent at the school gates so excited to be bringing the smalls home :o :rotfl:

DLA isn't sorted or even any update. Got a feeling it will be a fight to get it done which is rubbish! I'm going to wait until after Xmas and really step up to finding a 'real' job. I'm already sick of being up constantly worrying. I feel like my MH side of things are suffering already and the guilt etc I just feel terrible.

I think I need to re think the Xmas gifts for the smalls and try and just use what I have. The girls have a little gift I got back a few months ago and they have books. DS has books and I will try and get him something else. But I think the other things will have to wait. They won't mind though :)

I have cancelled v!rgin. It won't finish until January so they'll get Xmas holidays with it but we managed before we will manage again. I've cancelled Prime too. Time to get back to basics. I've also cancelled next years holiday :o:( If when the time comes round we have saved enough we will book somewhere but I can't commit every month until then.
