Hi there Girl Racer :hello:
Welcome back againgood luck clearing the credit cards, can you do a balance transfer onto a 0% ? it seems like you are already well on your way to clearing the Asda card. Have you looked into council tax re banding? - you may be owed some money if you are in the incorrect band ( I didnt think I was but I was so its worth quarter of an hour to check it out and send a letter - its somewhere on this site ) also have a check to see if you have built up any overpayments on your gas and leccie - although if you have you may want to leave the funds in there for higher winter bills. I would cash in the childrens bonus bonds - you will be able to save for the kids later ( unless they are 16-17
) and dont worry about falling off the wagon - I spent more time off it than on but got there in the end.
Good luck xoopsx
ps have you looked into matched betting yet ? a good source of extra income but you really need to read up on it and know what you are doing plus have an hour a night to sort it out. Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Hi Girlracer and welcome back
I just wanted to ask you about reclaiming mortgage exit fees...I've had 2 mortgages in the last 5 years, both of which were paid off in full. However, I ditched all the paperwork associated with them once they were gone.
Can I still reclaim fees if I was overcharged? And how do I go about this? I don't even have a reference number for either of them.
Good luck...you sound really motivated and are inspiring me!If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
Hi there ani*fan,
My first mortgage was with the Halifax, I did have the roll number for it and it was paid off in 2003. I managed to get £35 off them. I then changed my mortgage to Birmingham Midshires and again I had the account number. Telephoned them this morning and managed to get a £50 rebate....
Give them a call, I'm sure they can trace your account number with your address and postcode.
I've also telephoned the bonds people this morning and requested a surender form. Feel a bit gutted doing it but at the moment my need is greater than the children's. Have also cancewlled the direct debit so that's another £20 per month I'm better off.
Oops a daisy - With regards to matched betting, I'm going to have to get my head around it.0 -
Hi G-R. Sorry - I haven't been on as much yesterday so I missed the question about the children's bonds. But it sounds like you have made your mind up anyhow.
I think I probably would have said yes to doing it anyway too!
But perhaps you could pin up the receipt or something that shows where the money came from to pay off this debt?
I don't mean that to sound horrible or callous....I just mean you don't want to get into this again. I think I can feel just how gutted you must be to have to do this to pay off the debt....and you need reminders or something to prevent it. Would this be a good enough one?
I wanted to say as well - why are you ashamed to tell *us* how much you have racked up? If you can't tell us now after all this, then I think you may be doing yourself no favours because it's almost 'emu like'.
No-one will judge you - and if you stick it on your signature again it's pure focus. You can't get away from it!
But obviously it is your decision in the end.
But don't not 'share' for fear of what we might think - crikey, how many times have I fallen off the wagon in the past? I'm surprised I'm not just tied up & being pulled along behind the bl00dy wagon!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Thanks LA, I know what your saying is tru so maybe when I get home from work tonight I'll amend my signature and 'admit my failings'. I'm feeling a lot more positive today and really am motivated to get rid of this noose around my neck.
I am gutted using the childrens bonds but I know that its something I'm going to have to do and Ive decided that once I'm debt free I'll pay it back into their savings account over the next few years.0 -
Am still waiting to find out how much the children's bonds are worth and whether they will pay off a credit card. Not much more news on the moneysaving front. I'm continually thinking of ways to cut back and get these cards paid off. Still not got the exact figures together yet, but promise I will soon and then I'll update my signature.0

:hello: Just want to say hello and it's lovely to hear about your new romance. Is this the one you mentioned a while back in my diary?
Anyway we all fall by the wayside at times but at least we pick ourselves up, dust ouselves off and get right back in there. Keep on with it huni and you'll get there. Good luck. Hi there Diz great to hear from you. Yes, this is the man I told you about. He's really rocked my world. Can't believe you've finally paid off the loan, bet its a real weight off your mind and the extra money will be useful every month.
Have had a really good couple of days sorting out my money and it really isn't as bad as I originally thought. Have managed to shuffle a few things around and the bad news is that in total I've run up £1,250 as well as the Asda Card! Am well on my way to paying off the Asda card and I'm in the process of cashing in the childrens bonds. Good news about that is I'm expecting a good £800 more than I originally thoght so hopefully when all the money comes in I'll be debt-free again!!!!0 -
Thanks for the support Tustastic. The bonds are not doing very well at all and as you said I'll be better off saving elsewhere for them. I feel really guilty about cashing them in but I've been so stressed about money lately that I know I've made the right decision.0

Hi there. Sorry - not been around for a few days so I have not seen your thread.
Well now - took a look at your signature and didn't fall off my chair in horror!
OK it's debt you don't want and can't wait to be shot of but it's truly manageable and I have every confidence in you that you will not rack it up again.
How are you feeling about it all today?Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
