Goodbye to dunstonh

That is what gobsmacks me......an anonymous, and prolific, poster on the inter web gets cult status, and like Kim Jong Un must be given a 40 day standing applause because....?
As I have already said, there are dozens of posters here who provided the same guidance as did dunstonh.
Did you just compare dunstonh to Kim Jong Un??
If so, then that is showing great disrespect.
You are right, to some degree, at least. People on the internet should be 'listened to' with caution - you never know who they really are.
Thankfully, we build up a system internally in our brains and on the forum whereby people's opinions and guidance are weighted.
Some posters, those with large post counts, large thank counts, and those that convey useful information, and logic, get a higher weighting. Higher weighting is good.
I can only speak for myself, my own personal opinion and feeling is that dunstonh has a much higher weighting than, for example, posters that advocate buying gold.
And if by some random chance, everyone else on the forum (individually) computes the same relative weighting numbers, then you can clearly see why dunstonh might have a strong positive standing in this forum by other forum members.
I'm just trying to explain why many many forum members value dunstonh.
You make a good point about the other posters who have also given the same / similar / equivalent / acceptably-alternative information and guidance as dunstonh.
I would think that no one is diminishing their contributions, and that our weighting of them is quite high too. If they got banned we would be rallying to their support too.Goals

Trust is key in financial dealings. It is only people like dunstonh who ensure that the financially naïve are safe on a forum like this.
I am not saying that he was unique, as mentioned in the previous post there are others who also fit this bill, but he was very high on my list of trusted contributors - perhaps in part because I actually disagreed with him on several issues. He was a most useful counterpart and I will miss his input greatly.
MSE is lesser for his absence.0 -
A few people on here patiently explained pensions to me and he was just one of them.
There is a lot of bad information on the internet, but i think a bit of common sense goes a long way in what and who you beleive and what you dont.0 -
With all due respect DiggerUK, why not create your own thread on this matter, rather than spoil a thread which has been created through respect for dunstanh.0

Let’s not forget the stories of complicated surgery, successfully carried out by someone who turns out to be the chef from the hospital kitchen.
I claim that “I am not now, nor have I ever been, a financial advisor” when for all anyone here knows, I could be a former advisor found guilty of multiple frauds.
Banning and censorship are not something I endorse.
But it would be wise for those here to “listen to all views expressed, then hold their own counsel after DTOR”..._
Alternatively we could all just listen to some random with no qualifications or experience who tells everyone to buy gold all the time.0 -

Well I'm not aware that the Norfolk 1 has ever lied about his golfing ability. Or assassinated a close relative in a foreign country. Or threatened anybody with death If they fail to applaud him.
The information provided stacked up to scrutiny just about every time. I'm not sure I'd ever be best mates with the PPR chap but he was above board, accurate and encouraged people to think for themselves.0 -
FREE the Norfolk 1Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0

Tumbleweeds are blowing round this thread.
How long does it take to decide the fate of the Norfolk 1?0 -
