    Mortgage-free Glee!
In case anyone is interested, I picked up a set of five tefal stainless steel pans (one frying pan without lid, plus four pans with glass lids) in Sainsbury's - reduced from £99.99 to £29.99 yesterday!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • I dont know about new pans, and this is a bit off topic, but I batch make my baby food in my le Creuset pans, and portion it into freezable containers, which I freeze, put them in the fridge the night before and microwave.... is this feasable for you?? Saves buying new saucepans, unless you need an excuse to get them!!:j

Thanks all - no, your reply's not off topic, though mine may be - I wanted to use pans rather than the microwave to heat up the babyfood as had read some bad stuff about microwaves killing vitamins in food etc and decided, given that it was for the baby, the extra bit of washing up was worth it (I still use the microwave for other things, though I am trying to reduce my use). I don't want to start a major health scare and panic people about microwaves - they're certainly convenient - has anyone else read anything like this? I used the microwave constantly for heating all my babyfood for 2 elder daughters by the way - only read this recently...

Oh and by the way got a very nice pan at TK Maxx for a fiver - plan to go back and get another one or two - it seems to wash and wear beautifully.

I was wanting new pans, mine were very cheap and the lack of cooking mean't they have lasted about 7 years. Anyway, with me cooking more often (as in every day) they are starting to fall apart. I want a few things from a pan and wondered if there are any available like this and where best to buy them.

I want to be able to use them in the oven and on the hob, hopefully under grill aswell. I need about 3 if not a few more.

Diswasher safe isn't an issue as I don't have one but would like them to be easy to clean because of that aswell.

Is there any that can be used in them both ? Also any ideas where to buy for the best deals ?

Good and bad reviews most welcome, I haven't a clue :o

Hi Lil_me, I got this set from M&S as I work there so I get a discount.

I bought it when they had 20% off everything so I thought it was really cheap for me.
It is fine for everday use as they take some bashing about, you might want something bigger though depending on how many you are cooking for or if you are bulk cooking.

M&S usually do a home event when it is bank holiday so I imagine John Lewis and Debenhams do something similar so if you can wait until then you might find a real bargain.

Usually cook for 3 as DS1 has something different but do prefer to bulk cook when I have the freezer space (which hopefully will be doubled from Sunday)

Can you use them in the oven ? I want to be able to say start a dish like a casserole etc off in a pan then put it straight in the oven :o saves on washing up

If money is no problem then we have these:

and they are brilliant. You can use metal utensils and all other things you cant use on standard non-stick. They can go in oven and under grill, although not in a dishwasher, it is there only downside (and i suppose the price tag)

It doesn't say about using them in the oven on the box so I assume not. The handles would get very hot as they are made of stanless steel like the pans.
It says they are dishwasher safe and they can be used on gas and electric hobs.
They are made of 18/10 stainless steel.

Not much help to you I'm afraid lil_me.

Ah forgot that bit, all my utensils apart frm a couple of spatulas/wooden spoon are metal, good point I never thought of that. I do love the look of that set, the large pans especially, off to see just how bad the prices are. Like I said Emma I don't have a dishwasher so as long as they are pretty easy to clean not a problem.

Just looked, see what you mean about prices, could afford it but I think DP would go crackers :rotfl:

ti1980 thanks anyway for looking, appreciate it.
