We used a set of copper-bottomed Prestige pans for years which were good but wouldn't go for wooden handles again as they either scorched or the varnish came off. Got some Stellar pans in a sale and have been very pleased with them. You do just have to be careful with the metal handles heating up though.
  • Hi, I have Meyer saucepans from their Professional range. Being stainless steel these look lovely and are dishwasher safe so easy to keep looking nice. They can also go into the oven and up to about gas mark 9 I believe, so truly versatile. They also go on all hob types, including induction etc.

I have a lovely stellar pan with a copper finish which we got from tk maxx. Only problem is that the copper finish looks streaky, but it doesn't bother me, I guess maybe I need to get some baby oil on it.
Proud to be a moneysaver!
  • Looks like the Robert Dyas pan set is sold out - might wait until the sales to see what is on offer then.....? Although they have a Stellar 5 Piece Cookware Set for £79.99. Quite fancied a set with a steamer though as I currently just use a colander with a pan lid on top. Also don't really want to spend more than £40/£50 as flatmates tend to destroy my pans. :( I have a Le Creuset casserole dish which is fab for stews and soups, but too big and heavy to use as a general saucepan.

Both my friend and I bought Circulon and neither of us would do so again. The non-stick scratches very easily and peels off.

I've got some old enalelled pans (originally from East Germany!) and they're absolutely fantastic. Even if you so get something burnt/stuck you can use scourer with impunity and they always come up 'good as new'!

Thats odd, I've had my Circulon for at least ten years now and love them. No scratches and no peeling despite the fact that they've had to contend with my cooking!

Wow- that's a great price for that set!! I've been eyeing one of those sauce pots and they cost around £20 by themselves!

Do you have a TKMaxx near you? I went in yesterday for a browse and they had a few lovely Stellar pans that were quite cheap - plus the huge covered Stellar roaster £60 in our local dept store, they had it for £19. Worth a look if you have one near!!

We want to get some new pans especially small ones as I'm forever heating up small quantities of babyfood and am getting sick of picking bits of the ageing non-stick surface out of lovely organic home-made baby food  - surely not healthy either...

As I can't afford cast iron and they're too heavy (or does anyone know of a lightweight iron pan???) and there are health risks associated with aluminium, I wanted to go for stainless steel. We currently have one stainless steel Brabantia pan which is fantastic - so easy to keep clean - but have looked and discovered that a single milk pan by them is £20 on Amazon! Does anyone have any recommendations for other stainless steel pans they've used or know where I can get the Brabantia ones cheaper?

As I've never used any other stainless steel pans I don't know if my one is so good because it's stainless steel or because it's a posh make. Could anyone with greater experience of stainless steel pans give me an opinion? Should I just bite the bullet and spend the money anyway?

I remember an earlier thread on pans which contrary to expectation, seemed to agree that Le Creuset was the most moneysaving pan ever as it lasted for ever. We have one casserole by them and it is true - but too heavy (and pricey) to be really what I'm after - I'd like 2 or 3 new little pans, ideally, just to give me 5 minutes between washing up...

    Advice appreciated!

Hi, I have a set of Judge Vista stainless steel pans and they are great. I have had them for about 6 or 7 years now. Have a look here http://www.pots-and-pans.co.uk/acatalog/Judge_Vista_Cookware.html
I have not looked for cheaper sites, just found their site to show you the pans. Hope this helps :)

You can pay as little as a tenner and as much as, well, hundreds for a set of stainless steel saucepans

I'd look for a sandwich base as these conduct heat more rapidly and evenly, but otherwise the recommendations of family, friends is probably a good guide. Hopefully there will be more OS/MSE members who can advise as well.

You say you'd like 2 or 3 small ones. The trouble with this is that pan sets - the cheapest way to buy the pans - come with different size pans. Plus, if you do buy separate small ones stainless steel pans have a tendency to last forever so you may well end up with little pans in a few years when you need bigger ones!

I wouldn't want to put you off stainless steel though - I have just one non-stainless steel pan for when OH wants to fry eggs, everything else is stainless steel.

You could perhaps try heating servings of food in separate dishes in a steamer?

THIS THREAD in the Grabbit forum is about bargain Judge pans, there are 2 different sets, one with a steamer & one with a casserole instead
they're still available, but are both £49.99 now

I got some & I'm really pleased with them :)

(there was a free P&P code too, don't know if that'll still be valid though)
