I bought my wife's car off her [I paid 3 old pence
] and I made sure I did it on sept 30th 2017. I'd already insured it under the assumption that I was going to be the registered keeper. I taxed it on oct 1st. There's no point paying twice for one month.

What does that service and MOT say about the roadworthiness today, let alone in 11 months time?
It means exactly what it means for your car. However every time she returns home I carry out all necessary checks and if I can't fix them I know a mechanic who can. Now are you going to tell us about how you care for your car or your kid's cars?IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -

Thank you so much for reiterating the point that I have been making here. I'm so pleased to know that I'm not the only one that disagrees with having to pay double road tax.:T:j:DIF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -

I also note that you're clearly happy to subsidise some of her motoring, while using her student finances as an excuse in other areas.0 -
I waited for a few days before transferring the vehicle, so that it was done on the 1st of the month. The last thing I want to do is fund the DVLA's christmas party anymore than I already do!0

Great, so we're in agreement that the service and MOT don't actually carry half as much weight on roadworthiness as regular checks - which really isn't quite what you said, is it?
I also note that you're clearly happy to subsidise some of her motoring, while using her student finances as an excuse in other areas.
MOT's carry almost no weight when it comes to vehicle safety and road-worthiness. Take an old car with 3 weeks of MOT left.... I've seen some that are genuine death traps.0 -

There are not going to be many who are able to work full time and get a first, although there may be some.
I would say there are more than you think but it does depend on how supportive the employer is. I've done it and recently at least two other people have in my workplace have as well. It makes it easier in some areas when you have hands on experience of some of the subjects. But the point i'm making is that it's not just about saving money it's also about making money. So you shouldn't think students can't do well if they have a part time job.4_Pete's_Sake wrote: »As the saying goes, "Every little helps". So why scoff at the idea. It has already been pointed out that hold little weight when it comes to continued road-worthyness of the car. But your making out she has no time to do anything but study so how will she ensure the car is roadworthy if she doesn't have the time to learn how to inspect it properly herself or the money to take it to a garage?0 -

No we are not in agreement. Would you pay the same price for a car if it had 11 months MOT that you would if it had 1 months MOT. I doubt it.
I was just making the point that it had just been SERVICED and MOT'd, which it sailed through with no advisories.
Surely any responsibile parent would be happy to help our their child if there was a real need unless they were scrooge.IF THIS POST HAS BEEN HELPFUL - PLEASE CLICK ON THANKS :j0 -
