Just book the same flights as my mum. She always pays to select seats together and nearly always moves to accommodate a sad-looking family with bleating brats who've refused to pay the extra "on principle". I find it odd that their principles never prevent them from asking a little old lady to move, but she is polite and generous to a fault, so always obliges.

She's next due to fly to Cyprus in a couple of weeks if anyone wants to save themselves some cash to spend on stinky in-flight hotdogs and Pringles.
  • Bit harsh.

I always reserve seats, and its always the back row, aisle and middle next to the toilet.

What frustrates me is the amount of people that then come up and say "Would you mind swapping seats so I can sit next to X who has the window seat?"

Is this a wind up? This has got to be the worst seat ever. Are you trolling?
  • I haven't flown in a while, do people have the cheek to ask to swap seats with someone like this?

Especially when they have a nice window seat. "Sorry, do you mind swapping your window seat with the child whose in the middle row because he's a bit resetless and look at the view". I'd say NO
  • You've obviously got problems.

    You probably have too.... so?

What do you reckon to the many folk who try to take onboard too much hand luggage, and then moan that there's no room left in the overheads?

Obviously a bit ridiculous i.e. complaining..... although airlines do encourage it.

Yes, they absolutely do! They usually stand blocking the aisle while quivery-lipped child whines "but I want to sit with you AND Daddy!" eventually the queue builds up and completely clogs the aisle, tutting of passengers reaches a crescendo, parents wring hands, look teary and ask seated people in general vicinity if they'd PLEASE do a swap as little Oliver is very anxious, and eventually a kind little old lady and her friend will volunteer to swap the seats they paid to reserve so the tight-fisted gits can sit together without the extra cost. :(

Oh yes. I forgot about the chore of walking a maximum of 20 meters to go to the loo....

People who do this are a bit snobby in general. Same with speedy boarding. Do people really have nothing better to spend money on?
As it's their money and not yours, it's really up to them what they spend it on.
Sitting together can be important to some people and a waste of money to others.

That's why those people who aren't bothered about sitting with their travelling companion are happy that it's a chargeable option - with the emphasis on 'option'.
  • Regarding the families issue (those too lazy to book seats and then expect people who have paid for them to move): Ryanair make you prebook if you have anyone under 10 in your party.

All airlines should do the same. Personally I wouldnt move for any family.

I wouldn't swap seats with anyone unless they bought the seat off me.
