This is our future while Emmanuel Macron makes waves in America and France is now the face of Europe.

Macron is the face of the Federalist Europe in an era when the EU is struggling to sell that concept to its own citizens. I’m not sure a US President desperate for a bit of outside positive affirmation in order to appear statesmanlike is the political coup you think it is.

Remoaniacs need to come to terms with the fact that they have destroyed any chance of any of the UK rejoining.

We have stuck two fingers to Barnier et al and they simply cannot deal with that.

Any terms for revoking Article 50 would mean the UK losing the rebate, joining the Euro and accepting unlimited numbers of 'migrants' which would utterly destroy our social system.

Remoaniacs thought they would ruin Brexit, all they have done is close the door on the UK rejoining.

Well done flakies! We could not have done it without you!

The quitlings have handled the negotiations very well, thank you.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

The comparison then, when we're debating re-joining is not re-joining Vs what he had before we threw it away, but re-joining Vs what we have at the time.

Correct, and the terms will be much, much worse than what we had before, I do not think that remoaniacs really understood what Brexit was about.

Brexit was not just about voting to Leave it was also about ensuring that there was no chance that we would ever return. After all if MPs had voted against Article 50 then we would still be members on the same terms.

The court case on Article 50 was pure joy!

Making Parliament vote on it, if TM had been left with the discretion she could have delayed invoking Article 50 and begun negotiations about staying in a reformed EU.

Article 50 is irrevocable unilaterally and everyone agrees about that, it would require the agreement of all the other parties.

The remoaniacs had a set of cards to play and boy did they play them badly!

The quitlings have been in charge of the agenda since the referendum in June 2016. Thank you.

It's not really a club; it's a marriage of convenience.

And it's not really leaving; it's more akin to a messy divorce.

The word divorce was often used on these forums in the early days after the referendun.
It then dropped out of use. However now after months of negotiations you are right, divorce is quite appropriate a word.
I think Britain needs a good lawyer as up to now the divorce is going badly.

That's better than the ESTA for the US, about 1/3rd the price and lasts an extra year. What worries me more is the extra time it'll take to get through borders. Flying into any big US airport with an ESTA you still need to allow an hour for the queue.

What is remarkable is how so many, who are not posting here, are surprised to hear about the ETIAS. Securing the Schengen zone has long been discussed and is due to be introduced in 2020. The EU have spent a long time building the system and while any huge IT project has a difficult birth, hopefully this will be introduced without too many flaws.

Britain is in the early stages of building something that may be similar (about time everybody says) what is frightening is with a start date of March 2019 any guesses how imperfect it will be?

Those who would like more reading on ETIAS.

TRAVEL INTO THE EU SCHENGEN ZONE
ETIAS similar to the USA ESTA is due to be introduced in 2020. This is everything to do with Brexit as Britain IN the EU would have not needed an ETIAS.

Just one more negative to leaving the EU.

This is our future while Emmanuel Macron makes waves in America and France is now the face of Europe.

If they had done this a few years ago it would have saved a lot of problems, mainly because it means border checks on the outside of the Schengen zone. Not sure how it would have applied to the refugees if at all, but at least there would have been something in place to check if they are actually refugees or simply jumping on the bandwagon. Even refugees have some form of ID when at home, especially when they are bringing bags and phones, any without papers should simply be sent back to their point of origin because it often means they have intentionally destroyed ID papers.

We should put something similar in place ourselves.

What we should also do is something that Switzerland were doing at least a few years ago, probably still are. When we drove through there we had to pay a fee to enter the country in our car. We could have avoided it had we not been on the motorway, but it was worth paying for the time saving.

We could set up an electronic system whereby visiting motor vehicles had to pay X amount online to allow them to use the vehicle on our roads (they would have to state whereabouts they would be travelling and why) and then simply link it to the existing ANPR system around the country. If they did not pay they would be banned from entering the country, if they then entered the country again the vehicle would be impounded until such time as any due fees and additional fines had been paid. This would also help keep track of when the vehicles were in the country and roughly where they were.

I also think there is a few European countries, and other countries around the world, that really do not have the same standard of driving as we do here. Case in point is that I know of at least two people who have had life changing injuries due to collisions with Polish lorry drivers, one of which was caught by the police, and the other one simply left the scene and, as far as we know, left the country.

We have a massive opportunity now to put in new rules that WE need as a country to control how and when people enter this country. We should take the chance.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I agree to some extent but Macron is showing purpose and has a sense of direction for France. He does seem to have an outward looking approach....whereas we are pre-occupied with internal division. My view is that you're better in the tent p****** out than outside P****** in. I fear we are losing influence and status?

Which is bizarre since one of the big complaints was about how insecure the Schengen zone apparently is, thus this is the logical conclusion.

I wonder what rage we'll see in the press when it comes into effect in 2020 and British tourists are stuck in huge queues trying to get to Malaga, because they didn't register in advance.

There are border checks on the outside of the Schengen zone, and always have been. This is talk about getting pre-authorization to speed the process up. I'm not sure outsiders of refugees will be handled any differently.
