    Yawn.
    Moving on....
Corbyn speeches being praised by the business community. How things change. :)
We'll be talking about remaining in 'the' Customs Union soon.

WTO is now dead. No matter how loud some brexit ultras on a forlorn internet forum bleat about it. :D

    That's Labour's position today.

Just a couple of months ago Barry Gardiner, the shadow secretary of state for trade was saying:
    1. We cease to be a member of THE customs union when we leave the EU

    2. A customs union AGREEMENT with EU, like Turkey has, would give EU power to decide our tariffs & quotas with 3rd countries.

We’d be forced to liberalise our market but have no reciprocal access to theirs.

Wonder what their position will be next week.
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.

    Well it is the Guardian....

    Then there's the caveats.

Back to the UK cherry picking......... no way.
Agreed. The rhetoric on both sides will need to shift a bit more to full CU membership and all it entails. Don't worry, it will happen.
Only a year ago, even talking about a transition deal was heresy. ;)
    Little steps. :D

    So? A U-turn by a political party.
Not exactly earth shattering news, is it?
    Still confident about WTO? ;)

It seems that Turkey pays nowt to be in the customs union.

They can!!!8217;t sell services to the EU on that basis but then that doesn!!!8217;t matter to an economy Like theirs.

Of course the EU would demand in return for a services gateway both a huge subscription and concessions that allow the poorer parts of the EU to continue converting their unemployment into our overcrowding.

A customs union solution is beginning to look inevitable for the UK. One can just hope that the British electorate recognise the blatant ransom aspect of membership.
There's much to consider in what you say.

Regarding the UK custom union though insofar as discussed, it is unlikely for the very fact that we would still by default be a part of the EU.
In fact Norway's own EU minister Marit Berger Rosland has already said just a few weeks ago that a Norwegian-style agreement would not be good for the UK as it would limit the UK's decision-making powers.
As for Switzerland, well the EU's belligerence with them regarding passporting; free movement; and pushing for the Swiss to sign a treaty (which the Swiss resisted) is evidence of how strained Swiss/EU relations are.

The British electorate voted Leave as a knee-jerk reaction to - perceived - negative aspects of immigration.
The British electorate doesn't have a clue nor gives a fig about our ability to strike deals with the Philippines or Peru.
Customs Union should be an easy sell.

It might be possible to sell a customs union to U.K. electorate, but how easy will it be to convince the EU to let us cherry pick and allow us to have a say in future trade deals. Also how will a selective customs union make no border checks any easier than no customs union.

Unfortunately I don't share your view. There's a gulf that has no reason to close. As there's a bigger game in play. Brexit is just the side show.

Great speech by Jeremy today. The thumb screws are on the prevaricating mess that constitutes the Tory government. There!!!8217;s a clear vision of what Brexit under Labour will look like, still no idea what Theresa May has in mind.

One can only assume that you have not read earlier posts about this before posting your own.

  • We've grown used to the EU fining companies vast sums.
    Now UPS bites back.
United Parcel Service is suing the European Union for €1.7 billion in compensation for damage it claims to have suffered when regulators wrongly vetoed its attempted takeover of parcel delivery rival TNT Express.

UPS is asking the EU’s General Court to award it compensation plus interest and taxes it would pay on any windfall payment, according to details of the case published in an EU Court filing on Monday.
