Tell Spain that - they hold Ceuta and Mellila which are claimed by Morocco, but of course things like that should only work one way according to Spain.

Would the UK pay billions to join a Customs Union. Even Corbyn suggested that the UK should be no worse off. Smoke and mirror words.......

Appeases the faithfull followers. Yet adds nothing to the current debate.

I dislike Corbyn as much as most, but I'm not sure there is really much of a current debate to add anything to, I wish there was!

It's not that I'm annoyed at the government's position, more that I'm annoyed they still don't even seem to have come up with one that is vaguely worthy of serious discussion, hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised by Theresa May's speech on Friday, but not holding out much hope at present.

Then there's France. Hanging on onto old Empire outposts.

Is this the post to which you refer? If so then I’ve answered it several times. If you’re unable to comprehend my posts, which I’ve kept as simple as possible, then there’s no point in me continuing to do so.

Thanks for posting these links. They are related to what leavers were claiming but they fall far short of ‘banging on Merkels door’ and being as they’re from last summer their protestations appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

I'm interested as to why you think that our government's entire strategy for Brexit should be publicised and in so doing thus weaken the position of the UK just so that a few die-hard Europhiles can see what it is?

Presumably you're no poker player; you'd be showing everybody your cards as soon as they were dealt.

You just don't get it, do you?

Since nothing has been signed you cannot with certainty say whether or not they have had any effect.
For all you know they could well be at the heart of German strategy but since YOU are not in a position to know whether they are or not, you can't say any more than your best guess.
Anyone can do that and what's more, the disastrous showing in German elections shows that the German public have concerns with their politicians and their actions so it's not unreasonable to further deduce that some of those reasons may relate to concerns about their future, jobs etc.

I would love to think there was some top secret strategy going on here, instead I think its a case of May taking a position to try to keep both wings of the Tories happy and as a result coming up with one that won't even be seriously discussed by the EU.

Equally if our desired outcome is so top secret that we never actually get around to telling the EU what it is, it isn't likely to lead to a successful outcome to negotiations......

The things is I agree that there are probably some divisions between EU countries which can be exploited to a limited extent but to do that we will have to at least have to put some proposals forward that won't be laughed out of the room.

Iif there is some top secret strategy at work here, it seems to be putting far more pressure on the British government than the EU so far.

To use a different analogy to yours our policy at present seems to be to offer £1k for house valued at £500k, and then to come back with £10k as a second offer and wonder why we aren't making much progress.

The discussion is with the EU negotiators not the media. There's no fixed position. As it will be a series of give and takes , in an attempt to compromise. Barnier has to report back and seek further instruction. Heads only meet together every 3/4 months. This leaves a void. That Barnier fills with his speeches. Merkel has been engaged elsewhere recently which cannot help matters. Particularly as Macron has jumped in feet first. Interesting times lie ahead.
