It works both ways though. MSE should be more responsible, your 100% right. But these banks will also love the positive publicity. They spent several weeks trialing the system in Birmingham and this excuse that "they can't cope with demand" is a joke, what on earth did they expect? Don't put a ridiculously good product on offer, and then not have the appropriate systems in place when demand for that product will obviously be high.
Sorry, what has any of it got to do with MSE? If I, my friends or anyone massively publicised something we don't hold any responsibility whatsoever for what happens next, it is up to the person or entity that originated such an offer to be prepared and responsible for what happens next.
Exactly the same situation happened a few months ago when Ulster Bank offered the highest (at the time) instant access savings rate of 1.25%. They were inundated with applications. For Ulster Bank or Clydesdale/Yorkshire in this offer to naively not anticipate such demand is THEIR problem and somewhat arrogant and complacent. Especially as websites such as MSE exist these days and their popularity will result in a swamping of interest.
To say this site has any responsibility is ridiculous. This is a website publicising offers, if the banks don't want to be swamped then don't start the offer. I'm sure they won't regret it, after all wasn't it there intention to get as many people to switch as possible? So they've been very successful thus far. If they feel they've had enough success they'll simply pull the deal :cool:0 -
It's almost as if the Hoover free flight fiasco never happened!
Having said that, I don't see how the inherently limited Birmingham trial could be in any way representative of the effect of the vast publicity created by CYBG themselves and also the secondary promotion on sites like this....0 -
I have an old Bank of Scotland current account which is still active but I haven't used it in years, if fact I don't think I've ever used it (years ago our local branch manager asked us to open one as a favour to meet sales targets!). It shows up in my online banking but I don't think I have a debit card for it.
The Clydesdale T&C's state that you must provide the following info during the application process:
- "your old debit card expiry date and PAN number - this is the long 16-digit number on the front of your card".
Am I scuppered if I don't have / can't find my debit card for the account being switched?
I think the application asks if you have one, I may have but said no, if I have got one, it's long been disposed of as I didn't have the account for the purpose of withdrawing or paying for goods other than via a direct debit or S/O.Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -

I implied MSE had some responsibility, but most resided with the bank.
Yes MSE does have responsibility, such as when it tells people to "hurry" in case the offer is withdrawn, which is based on pure speculation, or to still apply just incase the application is accepted, even when the bank has said it has issues.Making statements like "Biggest we've EVER seen". Are such statements really necessary? It causes people to rush to apply.
MSE also have switching deals listed for Halifax, First Direct, M&S, HSBC and have also had the Co-op there too. I've never seen a rush to get those switching offers done. Maybe an email saying "many switching offers available, check our guide..." would have sufficed. Instead, they used click-bait titles, to get people interested. So yes, whilst the most of the responsibility lies with the bank, MSE must always have responsible reporting, which I don't think has always been the case.0 -

I rang them this morning about not having the debit card and said I entered my sort code and account as per the application form. The advisor said there will be no problem not having the card.0 -
Hi,
Is anyone else having problems when applying for the B Account online? My postcode is not found and I tried different ones to see if it was mine specifically, but it just doesn't seem to work.0 -
Just received following email from B:

Any form of photo ID is acceptable. Driving licence, passport, or National ID card.
BTW, is that all they are asking for, ID? What about proof of income etc.?0 -

I had that with my wife's account. Haven't uploaded anything yet.
However, if you go onto the site, and click "retrieve my application" - fill in your password etc, it will take you through the rest of the form where you are confirmed and can switch
I'll upload the ID later0
