Yep, council accomodation is £52 per week. If you saw his flat you would know why.
He applied for HB and council tax benefit and was refused.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

Well call me a liar if you like. But I know I'm telling the truth when I tell you that the rent is £52 a week. Believe I'm a liar if it will make you feel better.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hi sweet
I've just read this thread and I understand your position. This sounds awful, but are you sure that your OH gave you all the figures? I only ask as one of my ex's did something very similar to me (ok his was in the Army and his wages were ok) but I could never work out why he didn't have any money. As it happens he was gambling (i'm not suggesting your OH is, please don't think that).
I think some really talking needs to be done to his daughter. We have had a situation in my family where a cousin got married and her sister had her dress paid for. In turn she had to do some hours in their Mum's pub to cover the cost.
Sending you hugs and support, situation's like this can be hard. My suggestion would be for OH to look for a new job or a least see if any of the stores he is currently working in have any full time employment, even if this is just for now.

Hi
Black Saturn - you have your finger on the pulse as far as Money saving is concerned I am sure.Did you post this thread because something didn't add up to you too? There is something not adding up, I felt it earlier, but didn't want to come across as accusatory. We appreciate that you are posting this on the figures he has given you.
If these figures are the correct ones and obviously you can only go on what you are told then there is lots that can be done.
Just done a rough calculation in entitled to on figures given his tax credit should be £121 per week - this would then take him out of HB and CTB.0 -

As it turned out it dosen't add up but instead off putting your hands up and admitting an error (typo or miscalculation) its turned into a battle, adding a :rotfl: may have been wiser.
I tried to work out his hours versus his wage, payroll may have made a mistake, it happens. If he is contracted to do more hours travelling and unpaid to boot then he should (and you as partner) work out a fesability study or reschedule if at all poss.
You posted the SOA for scrutiny, accept its flawed when it is.
FWIW, I live int' north, my Co. rent out a few flats mostly 1 bed but the min rental per week is £75 plus bills. Your b/f is doing very well to have a council flat for £52 (what ever the condition)
I hope you look at the website I posted earlier and I hope you repost a real SOA and let him receive help and advise he clearly asked you for.Panda xx

Hi B-S,
I've been through the EMA thing with DS2 (now at Uni). The deal with EMA is that it is not just for pocket money for the kid, it is intended to make it possible for that child to attend college - i.e. bus fares, contribution to household costs etc. They also get attendance/performance bonuses of up to £500 over a 2-year period.
Does OH's daughter spend the EMA on herself? Or does she buy her lunches with it, bus fares, books, paper etc? If it is the latter then I would say it's being used fairly, given your OH's circs. If it is not, then I personally would suggest he stops the £10 and she learns to manage! And as for the lap-top - mayb she can use some of her bonus towards it, and repay half the cost out of her EMA?
Otherwise, he isn't preparing her for real life, but for the life that you & lots of other posters have experienced the hard way by being in debt & working hard to get out of debt.
