He's applied for loads but being as honest as he is he tells them that he won't be able to work there after June and then they say they don't want to employ him if he can't commit himself long term.

There are loads of jobs where no one will give a monkey's if he leaves after 8 months. That would almost entitle him to a long service award in some places.

it could make a big difference as benefits increase for those who work longer hours.

Main thing here is the income. Two jobs totalling less than 475 per month is not a realistic income for a working adult. You state his daughter is 17, which means there is no issue with childcare.

I simply don't understand why he cannot get a full time job which would pay nearly double what he currently gets. You say it is hard to find work, yet he is simply shelf-stacking which is hardly skilled labour, there are many many supermarkets which will pay at the very least the minimum wage and it is not hard to get a job there.

Other people have mentioned benefits and so on, so I won't go into that.

There is no reason (posted) that he cannot work full time? Or am I missing something?

Well what do you or he expect from this?
he earns £108 a week working rediculous hours and has not enough money left at the end of the month.
Common sense would tell me to get a job, any job and not tell them i'm moving in june.
But i've already said, there are plenty of temping agencies out there, and he lives in london so no shortage of jobs either.

I didn't say there was a reason. He has been applying for full time jobs.

Well thankyou for all your advice. I think I will ask for this thread to be closed now as it's been going round in circles for a long time.

There has already been a thread regarding the OP's boyfriends hours being cut back in January, at that time he was offered a full time managerial post

However, exactly the same help was given then, get more hours, more money and claim WTC/CTC, same circle, different time :)

If you look at this thread properly instead of just reading the posts you choose to you will see there is an explanation about how the company was split into two and then one of them went bankrupt.
