At least she has plans to wear them - my Mum has bought masks but not used them 🙄 I despair!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!5 -
I'm not sure where she will wear them, as her shopping is delivered and she only sees friends outside, at a distance. I would have been helpful to know that she had the disposable ones yesterday though, as I could have put them in the car and had a backup for when mine broke!
It's too hot for brain work today. I think I'm going to go and potter in the garden - alternating with reading in the garden and drinking cold water! Some of the reading might even be work reading...8 -
Hi greenbee
my word, your gardening has really come on since I last managed to get online, good for you. Weirdly, I'm like your mum in that I don't go into any other buildings at all - I've managed everything on deliveries and collections and there's been only one mistake - I wanted to buy a big sockit to them kitchen knife for cutting veg, and I bought a normal size one. Still useful, so hey ho.
I'm so glad to be back!2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
I've only been into homebase, and don't plan on repeating the exercise! My mum will probably be socialising a bit more now she's back home. I think it's necessary for her mental health TBH. Hopefully the weather will improve and she can have people over for coffee/lunch/supper outside. Mind you, she also wants to get back into her studio and do some painting (and if she's doing that she won't notice whether she's seen anyone recently or not!
Today is a day off work, so before my mum was picked up I managed to hang a couple of pictures that have been lying around for ages. I've got 4 or 5 more to do, and one photo of my grandfather to order a frame for. I've also moved a bit more weed from the stream to the compost heap and added some cardboard. The main bit of my new waterbutt has been unpacked, and the rest was delivered this afternoon. Also remembered to turn the irrigation system on for the herbs for a bit as they're in the shadow of the house and the planter is shallow so they dry out.
I also spoke to my GP and have a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue, but she wants me to have some tests so that she can get a clinical diagnosis, and this will include and antibody test to confirm whether it is post-Covid fatigue. She's 100% sure she's right, but the test results will mean that they may be able to identify treatment, and also provide me with a referral to the local support service. So blood tests next week, and in the meantime, pace myself. No need to worry about work at the moment, as I can work round it for the foreseeable future - after all, there is no travel happening so it's just a question of getting the work done and planning around the meetings I do have.
I've also got the drill out, so the plan for the rest of the day is to lie around reading books, eat pizza, drink wine and have an early night. But over the next couple of days I want to get a shelf put up as well as the remaining pictures. I'm also researching standing desks (I use a sit/stand desk in Sweden and love it) as there is space in my office if I remove the return from the current desk. Ideally I want one that I can use with a treadmill - you can get them specifically designed for going under desks and walking slowly while working. If I'm going to be at home more, and need to focus on health and fitness then it probably makes sense.
£1.27 in interest on my current account this month, so it was moved to the mortgage6 -

Sorry to hear about the fatigue, greenbee - good to hear you plan to relax today now your mum's gone home, its so important, no matter that you *feel* like doing more. It's a very odd thing.

Thanks
I'm trying to work slowly through my list, as it takes the pressure off. I've put up a few pictures, which gets them out of the way (still a couple more to do), and retrieved the drill ready to put up the shelves (I need to find plugs and screws next). Priority for the next few days needs to be netting the raspberries and emptying the kitchen ready for the electrician to start on Tuesday. I'm hoping the weather gets better over the weekend, as there's a backlog of sheets/towels to wash and I don't want to use the dryer!6 -
Supposed to be sunnier next week if you can wait a few days on the bedding. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I got one lot of towels washed today, and it should be dry/windy enough to clear the backlog over the weekend. I've got plenty of clean sheets, so washing them can wait!
This weekend's jobs are:- Put up shelves in kids' room (this will mean I can put stuff back on them and clear some surfaces)
- Clear the kitchen table and change the tablecloth because I need to:
- Empty the kitchen ready for the electrician to start on Tuesday
- Build the supports for the raspberry nets

I'm still not dressed today... but have done some reading in bed. In between I've managed to get one load of laundry washed and almost dry (it's now spread out between the airing cupboard and towel rails). I've also cleared the kitchen table, brought in the spirit level, moved a few boxes and crates into the dining room and sitting room and emptied the dishwasher. Everything is upstairs ready to do the shelves, so hopefully I'll get them done at some point and then rack up plenty of steps moving odds and ends around.
I'm debating doing the filling and painting after the electrician has been, but it will depend on how much filling there is to do. I'm hoping that as the majority of the wiring will be behind the units it won't be too messy. If it isn't, I'll make an effort to go and get the paint next week as it's only the walls, window and a bit of architrave to do. Plus I'll then have the paint I need to do the units in the dining room (and touch up the dining room walls). If it looks like a lot I'll ask the fitter whether he has anyone free who could fit it in soon, or alternatively whether we can add it on to the start of the fitting.
I need to use up some of the food in the kitchen (I've been saying this for months, but despite the issues with ordering food during the start of lockdown, I still haven't done it!). Thursday's lasagne-making finally emptied the box of lasagne sheets. I've just had a mug of miso soup, and tonight's defrosted thai veg curry will use the last of a packet of noodles. I need to dig out all the things that need finishing and put them in a box so I can prioritise and plan round them. Unfortunately most are carbs, so need rationing to avoid giving me tummy ache.7
