Not a fan of quorn, but then I'm a meat eater
I do eat quite a bit of tofu though (smoked tofu on salad is lovely).
Yesterday's not-so-good news is that my role is being made redundant. Not a huge surprise and I'm amazed it took them so long. I work across the whole organisation, but the job title and role I'm officially paid to do aren't really needed anymore. They claim they'll try to redeploy me, but I don't think any team will want to pick up the bill for a cross-silo role. My consultation starts next week, then my HR partner is on holiday, then I'm on holiday so it may take a while to go through the process. They need to look at my contract too, as they seem to think I'm on 4 weeks notice, and I'm not. I'm on 3 months... So time to start raising my profile on LinkedIn again (I haven't written any articles for a while) and working my network. I've already reached out to a few people. Worst case scenario I can survive until the New Year and a bit beyond. Best case would be PILON and a new job starting fairly soon - but with a bit of time to rest and prepare in the hope that I can shake this post-Covid thing.
So today was payday (not bonus day sadly, that's next month) and I shifted the money left in my account to the mortgage. After all, the less there is to pay on the mortgage, the more options I have in life... I'm hoping to pay the second installment on my kitchen today - if not, it'll be Monday - I'm just querying one last thing. I still need to find the sink, taps, worktops, splashback and cooker hood but hopefully I can get some input from friends while we're on holiday. The savings are there for this and the installation plus various other stuff that needs doing, and importantly, for the dental work. That's without touching my 'what happens if I lose my job' fund.
Today is a day off, so I've got a list of small jobs to get through pre-holiday. Although as you can imagine, work won't exactly be my top priority for the next few weeks8 -

So, so sorry to hear this greenbee, there's so much of it about at the moment 🙁 I'm glad you've got the time off coming up to help you process it. Hopefully a bit of headspace will aid your recovery too xMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

So sorry havent been around for ages. Bad news I see about your role
but youre sounding wonderfully prepared and pragmatic. Well done. And having an emergency fund is so so wise. PILON (with an enhancement?) and a new job with maybe a break inbetween sounds fab. Will keep my fingers crossed for that for you ...

Thanks all. I've certainly been doing lots of resting since being told!
As part of the consultation process they obviously have to look at redeployment. So I set up some calls, including to the CEO who I tend to catch up with fairly frequently when we happen to be in the same place at the same time (when he's in the office I have a desk in, his office is next to my desk...). My conversation with him suggested that the redundancy was a surprise to him - he knew about the role, but seemed to have been expecting me to have taken on new responsibilities earlier this year based on a discussion I had with him in Feb, and to have asked the member of the leadership team that my current reporting line goes into to look at a cross-functional role for me (exactly what I was running past him). So we had a good chat about needing to work out whether the organisation was mature enough (his word, not mine) to make the best of my skillset at the moment, what I should be doing, and the best way to achieve this. He understands how difficult it is to measure what I do - because if I do it right, then other people do their jobs better and it doesn't necessarily all get back to me (in fact, highlighting that it was down to me can be damaging, as the point is to get people to think things are their own ideas). So I'm not sure where I stand, but he's going to have a further conversation today and then HE will get back to me - not HR, not my boss, not my boss's boss.
I'm not holding my breath, and I'd started getting my head round having a bit of a break. While redundancy and an immediate start would be great from a cashflow perspective, if I do get made redundant, I'd like to budget for a break before I start job hunting. If something turns up, then great, but a couple of months of downtime before starting to job hunt would be a good idea. I'm on three months' notice, so realistically I could take time out until Christmas, after which I'd need to find something fairly quickly. But it would give me time to recover, sort the house out a bit more, and have a really good think about options.
Kitchen order is finalised and the next instalment is paid. I'm going to forget about it now for a few weeks before trying to organise delivery, preparation and all the other bits that need doing before it arrives.
I'm trying to improve the pacing this week. So I did Pilates yesterday morning and have done no other classes since. I plan to do Pilates tomorrow morning and yoga on Friday morning. Hopefully I can then do a bit more the following week and start building up again. As tomorrow is a day off I do have a lot of pottering to do in the garden, and a friend coming over for a gossip in the garden in the afternoon.
£1.34 paid off the mortgage today after paying for the kitchen. £4.35 cashback requested from Quidco into my bank account (I don't get enough nowadays to make it worthwhile waiting for it to add up for vouchers, and most of them I wouldn't use anyway).
I'm off to bed shortly. It's boring being this tired, but hopefully I'll get over it soon if I'm good.8
