I can't believe how many spiders I've found in the house so far this year. Yesterday morning I hadn't even put the kettle on when I discovered not one two of the big ones behind the washing up bowl in the sink [many shrieking blue emojis]. Had to relocate them before I could make a cup of tea.1

Trying not to think about spiders... the cats (and dog) are doing sterling work in attempting to keep the numbers down, but I think I'm going to have to spray window and door frames, and trickle vents.
Car has had it's MOT and been serviced. Needs two new tyres, so I need to organise that - as well as taking a car load of stuff to the CS, booking a GP appointment, and getting the dog's toe and cough checked out to clear him for going back to daycare.
Scything at the front has been done... it took me a little while to get back into it, and I could see the difference as my technique improved. Garden waste bins have been filled with the results (which included a desiccated rodent carcass). Stripy cat was fascinated and had a lovely time burrowing in the piles of hay and making cat nests. My mum was staying (I dropped my car at hers on Thursday, along with my dehumidifier, and she brought me home so that my car could have it's MOT/service at her local garage and she then came back last night and we went back to hers and collected my car this afternoon) so some deadheading has also been done.
Food today has focused on using up random bits and pieces, which resulted a very nice chicken and veg casserole this evening. One portion left for tomorrow.
There's nothing much in the veg plot to feed us over the winter (a few leeks, but they were never transplanted so are all squashed together), some chard, and hopefully a few more squash to come (blue banana and musquee de provence). I don't trust myself to store squash properly, so I'll plan to cook with them and freeze the results. Ideally I need to get out into the garden over the next week or so and clear enough to get some crops in for winter/early spring. However, I'll probably be concentrating on the house as I have to clear my bedroom, the store room attached to it, and my bathroom by the end of the month for the fitted shelving and carpet to be removed ready for the plumber. I also still need to choose wall lights for the hall (which will mean I need to clear the hall for the second week in October so the electricians can make mess).
The bedroom is getting a second radiator (preparing for when the boiler will be replaced with a heat pump), and the ensuite towel rail is being swapped from electric-only to dual-fuel so it can run on the heating in winter and still run off solar/agile when appropriate. Five LED spots are coming out of the ensuite to be replaced with a single bulb holder, and all the chrome electrical face plates are being replaced with white plastic ones - two more double sockets are going in as well. And then it's all being decorated. If I can find the cash, I'll get a new headboard - but I have a tree coming down this Friday, the loft insulation/hatch is being done in October, as is the replacement of the bath panel/waste/overflow in the spare bathroom - and the hall/stairs/landing being decorated in November. So the headboard may have to wait!
However, it will mean that upstairs will be DONE just over two years from moving in. Next year will be about downstairs... most importantly utility/kitchen, as they're driving me nuts.
Oh, and hopefully the garage doors will be blocked up this autumn, which should make the house a lot warmer and less draughty.
Agile prices are good tonight, so I plan to do a load of pet bedding soonish which can then go on delay in the dryer, and shove some towels in the WM. I can have a bath too, and heat the water up overnight. DW doesn't need doing, but the airer and towel rails will get some use. Prices are good tomorrow too, so laundry and cooking may well be on the cards - particularly if it isn't gardening weather!3 -

I was overdrawn this morning for the first time in ages ... but luckily spotted it and moved some savings over before it incurred any interest. I've been trying to cashflow more than I should have done. There will be some big bills coming up in October:
Tree surgeons end of this week
Plumber - new radiator and towel rail
Electricians - new sockets, lights, and smoke alarms
Carpet and fitting - my bedroom
Decorator - my bedroom/ensuite/wardrobe
Builders - bath panels, dismantling and fitting wardrobe, loft insulation and hatch, odds and ends while they are here
Car tyres - must book in to get them done
More decorating is booked for November, and at some point (hopefully soon) the kitchen doors are being replaced and the garage doors blocked up. The boiler also needs servicing and the chimney sweeping.
Hopefully the window cleaner will turn up again sometime soon - he's due to do the insides next time, but I'm pretty sure he's overdue. I'd also like him to do the gutters monthly for a while as they're getting clogged up with leaves. He's supposed to come monthly but has only been four times this year, so I'm seriously considering finding someone else. I'm next to a wood, so gutters are important, plus spider-season means the frames need careful attention at the moment. And I'd quite like the greenhouse cleaned properly over the winter.
Lots to do in the garden too - more scything (orchard is the priority), clearing and tidying in the veg plot, and hopefully planting a few things for over the winter. I've enjoyed not buying veg...2 -
