Thanks, both! Kitchen is fully lined now. I cleaned the floors and put up the dining table (had to call my bf in for that one, it was a bit heavy) and I'll do the chairs tomorrow. Now there's a place to sit for Christmas dinner, and a temporary workspace before I start work on my office. I'll hopefully be able to paint it at the weekend.
I had the gutters and windows cleaned this morning. The guy found an old tv ariel in the front gutter. Good job I just stream everything.
Job for tomorrow evening is to start lining what will become the office (tiny spare room). Not sure the pasting table will fit in there, so it might be interesting.
Frugal things: I've requested a water meter since it's usually just me in the house. I also managed to offload a ton of moving boxes on freecycle.
I might give myself Saturday off to properly relax this weekend, although I'm sure I'll find an excuse to potter around instead of lying on the couch...
  • Pottering is good. As much as you want to crack on and get stuff done you don’t want to rush or overtire yourself and make a mess of it. I’m sure it will look great. Can’t you set the pasting table up in a bigger room or is there not enough space with bed/furniture in them?

  • Ah, you are sure you aren't confusing 'pottering' with 'planning in your head whilst lying down on the sofa with eyes closed, definitely needing to think things through before the next project'? :D

  • Can't believe how much you've got done!
Good call getting the water meter and getting some odd jobs done.
Prioritise your rooms or sections within the rooms. Make sure you get sufficient rest, even if you do potter around.

Pretty much, yeah - that's what I do in bed each morning!
The pasting table can go in the other bedroom and we can carry sheets through if needs be, so shouldn't be a problem.
I now have a dressing table in the bedroom and a storage shelf thingy for the bathroom, which has made life a lot easier.
We got the kitchen painted this weekend - I just need to do a second coat of one colour and then paint the trim sometime this week, but it's looking pretty good. There's a light terracotta on two walls and a sort of grey/brown on the other two. Just repainting the coving has really brightened it up.
Next job is lining and painting the office. I've chosen a very light grey/lilac for all of that room. It's quite small, so hopefully it'll open it up a bit. It was a nasty dark grey before and it wasn't doing it any favours.
  • Sounds lovely and you're making very good headway 🤗

The kitchen is done! Bit of a learning curve, it's a bit darker than I thought it would be and with hindsight a lighter colour would have made dealing with the lumpy walls a bit easier, but at least it looks fresh now! Will start lining the office tomorrow evening.
  • A colour isn't for life, it's ok to pick a lighter one in the sales. Main thing is the kitchen is done and off the list 🤗

Should finish lining the office today :) Just checked my MSE credit club- it's gone from 999 to 802 but my affordability scores have increased, which is interesting. I'm not looking to get any new credit, but it is kind of fascinating to see how getting a mortgage/moving house affected it. Looks like the council haven't processed my change to the electoral roll just yet.
  • The scores are not used by financial institutions in the UK, only the credit history. It's a month or two before the council's update everything, once you get your letter (assuming your council send one out) you can use that to prompt the CRAs to update your status.

    You're powering through it!
