We say chocolate fireguard as well :rotfl:

Blimey, do student loans not always come through on time, that's something else I've just learned. I'll be glad when DD has finished her degree. They talk about the stress the students are under but nobody seems to have delved behind the scenes and thought about us poor parents :rotfl:

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday HHD. xx
  • A bit late to the party but I have twice acted as guarantor for student offspring accommodation. On the first occasion, I was a single parent with a larger mortgage than I should have had and £18k of credit card debt including periodic late or missed payments. The second time was about 6 months ago when I had no stable income but happily no debt other than the mortgage. It was as much about testing the waters as, worse case scenario, dd could have asked her father. There wasn’t an issue either time and, most recently, I’m not sure a check was even done. I did threaten death and destruction is a call was ever made for funds and happily it didn’t happen. Maybe I’m a bit laid back but, if one of our children needed a kidney, we wouldn’t hesitate. This is only money and a small price to pay for them having somewhere fit to live. It also meant that I didn’t have to worry about poor housing.

Just trying for a different perspective.

That's interesting INOD, thanks for that :). IF we get approved as guarantors and IF it is only for DS3 then we will do it I think. I trust him to be sensible with his money and to set aside enough for his rent and you're right that we do want him to live in good housing where he'll be happy.

Babysitting is different from childminding as you're more likely to be looking after the little ones in their own home so thecparents know their own home is safe

Childminding is heavy regulated and we have to adhere to a lot of rules and are inspected on a regular basis to ensure we are following the curriculum for the children we look after and we are police checked, we have to take many courses throughout the year as part of our personal development.......it's a lot of paperwork but I love my job xx
