  • £7000! Imagine if that had accidentally got chucked out   .

It doesn't sound harsh or odd at all OBL :). Everyone is different about how much stuff they want to keep and how they feel about other people's possessions. You parents are very organised and it will make it a much easier and pleasanter job for you to do when the time comes :).

My mum was very sentimental and eveything had memories for her, so she had a lot of things stashed away! If stepdad every decides to downsize it will take ages to sort out. My sister is coming to stay for a week in the summer though, so he's asked her to sort out what's left of my mum's clothes. I'll help her of course so at least that job will be done.

I think sorting my mums clothes would be the only thing I would find upsetting :(
The £7000 wasn't the only money that was stashed away,my friend had to send details of her mums finances to whoever agrees to pay for the residential home,so she sent off all the details of how much money her mum has in the bank and they agreed on how much she would have to pay before they start paying for her place,it took a while to sort out, then last week my friend was contacted by the bank to say they had found another account with £20,000 in it:eek:my friend had asked her mum if she had any other accounts and her mum had said no,so now they have to declare this money and sort it all out again

Re the guarantor situation I would be very wary of doing it if you don't have the money to be able to afford the payment should your DS default, loans student finance loans can be delayed sometimes and I wonder if the letting agency would wait or would expect you to pay
When my DD moved into private accommodation at uni she found a private landlord and didn't go through a letting agancy at all becasue it was easier and cheaper to do it that way,I had to be a guarantor for her but it was made clear on the contract that it was only her rent I would be covering
Definitely make sure he doesn't put the utilities in his name,my DD did this for the broadband and was forever chasing her housemates for the money, luckily they did pay everything and it wasn't expensive but it's a hassle you can do without when you are at uni
    Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,894
  • Oops forgot to say ,good news on the tax refund finally arriving:j

I'll be very surprised if we get accepted OBL :o. We'll have to wait and see if we are and then look at the contract and think about it very carefully. His loan came very quickly this year, but who knows if it will next year. It does seem to be a bit of a minefield :(.

    Thanks :).

It does seem a rule too far doesn't it. You're more than likely right about people doing it on the QT. Can't even seem to help each other out these days without somebody wanting to know the ins and outs of a cat's backside. Back in the 70's Mum used to look after a neighbours little one a couple of mornings a week. She was happy with a bit of extra money and the neighbour was happy she could go and do a shift at work. She always had our cousins in the holidays as well. Thinking about it the tax man probably missed out on quite a bit although my Uncle used to pay her in boxes of chocolate sometimes which us kids thought was brilliant. xx

:rotfl: the version I know is 'the ins and outs of a duck's @rse :rotfl:
  • I made someone laugh at work yesterday when I said one of our bosses was about as much use as a chocolate teapot, she had never heard it before:rotfl:

  • Sounds like your Saturday eventually resulted in some relaxation for you, HH:beer:. Love the thought of your rabbit reclining like a Roman Emperor. That's how my lovely cat used to pose:j

Just to return to the babysitting situation, which looks as if you've sorted after finding the link, HH:T. I think babysitting isn't registered because people usually do it in the customer's home whereas for childminding you have to provide the premises. I may be wrong though, I often am:o.

We had a flyer through our letterbox a couple of years ago from a Sixth Form student who was needing to raise money for a Girl Guide Annual 'meet' in Japan and she mentioned all sort of jobs she'd be willing to do for people such as babysitting, car washing, dog walking and various other things. I'm not sure how successful she was as it's a rural area with few possible customers for any extra work but with the absence of any shop or pub to put an ad in I applauded her 'get up and go' for getting herself and her request 'out there'.

I know you didn't mention baking as a possible way of making money but this just shows the daftness of some of the rules and regs that make our lives so complicated:

I hope that doesn't happen next year . I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly his loan arrived this year, it arrived the one day after his welcome weekend :T.

You are right about the babysitting situation, I just assumed it would be regulated because most things are :rotfl:. That does sound very daft about the baking!

    Have a good day :).
