Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Just having a quiet chuckle because OH is getting ready to go out to buy a replacement shower this morning, We live in a very hard water area and the other one which was donkeys years old has completely scaled up. Not the shower head which I descale regularly but the tank that heats the water. There's no way to get inside it to descale it. It's an electric shower over the bath. I use the cheaper generic Calgon in the washing machine, descale the kettle all the time and use a filter jug for our drinking water but he still hasn't twigged that a totally unscaled shower won't soldier on forever:eek:
The reason I'm giving a cruel chuckle is that he was doing some work in the garden yesterday and really felt like a shower this morning before going out. Tough! He can't get a single trickle of water out of it either warm or cold:rotfl:. He's moaning because the water is cold for a sink wash as well but that's because he was too mean for me to put the oil boiler on last night. It's possible to heat the water separately to heating the radiators but it still makes the house slightly warm (undetectable to me but he says it does:() and he kept going on about how mild it was last night:eek:. He only felt hotter than usual because he'd been working hard in the garden. Too late now to put the boiler on to heat any water up, he needs to set off in 5 minutes so he had to boil a kettle. I'm surprised he managed it himself I'm usually the one who does all this stuff but I just managed to stop myself, sit here enjoying a cup of tea and ignore his rantings:j
If he comes home without a new shower today I won't be responsible for my actions:o. The local plumber, a friend of ours, could come this evening to fit it so it's over to OH now. We only need a cheap shower (good job as he will only part with any money under general anaesthetic) as we're planning to replace our heating system anyway (sometime never) and get a combi boiler this time. The current oil boiler in the kitchen and the size of a washing machine is living on borrowed time. We can then get rid of the massive water tank in the walk-in airing cupboard in the bathroom and get it converted into a walk-in shower .
Incidentally, OH has no debts, has never owed a penny in his whole life apart from the mortgage of course which was paid off decades ago. He has savings and investments all over the place probably enough to buy another whole house outright for cash:eek:. Yet he's still happy to live like a pauper. It's not frugality, I'm 100% for that, it's just meanness:mad:
Sorry about the rant, everyone and for clogging up your diary HH:o Today hasn't started well, let's hope it will improve. The improvement should start for me as soon as his car drives off;)
Edit: He's gone:j:j:j0 -

Thank you. It's been a slog but now the end is almost in sight it feels so good:j
Still waiting on 2 creditors who haven't responded to my F&F settlement offers yet:(. If they say yes the balance will go down even more as I could pay them off as soon as I hear that they've accepted.0 -

Good question, beanie:T:rotfl:
No, I'm the sole beneficiary after a couple of very minor bequests to 2 charities that he supports. I've seen a copy of his will, I know this to be true;).
I keep telling him that I'd rather we lived in what 'normal' people would consider acceptable comfort rather than endure how we live now just for me to inherit a mass of money. It would probably be too late for me to enjoy it, that's if I don't pre-decease him anyway, probably from hypothermia:eek:0 -

Well done on getting loads of the paperwork sorted!
I hope you have a nice weekend away and it's not too difficult."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

My craft desk in my living room is covered in clutter and I keep saying I am going to tidy it up but it's still waiting
I've solved that problem though because I was chatting to a FB friend earlier who is also decluttering and I have vowed to do it on Thursday and to make sure it gets done I'm going to post before and after photos, hopefully I can shame myself into doing it:rotfl:
Thanks OBL
. Our home office is a disaster zone and so is our bedroom . The kitchen and lounge are uncluttered or I couldn't cope, but I feel stressed every time I go in the bedroom or office
. My bedroom is full of my mum's belongings and my books. The office is full of DH's clutter and I lack the mental energy to tackle either at the moment
.
Mind you we can't afford to buy storage which is the main problem. Even shelves cost money to buy and time to put up

If it's a tiny bit of consolation, you have saved me massive hassles by persuading me never to go near V!rgin.
Thank you Cherry
. I definitely suffer from technology rage and could cheerfully have throttled the printer  and yet I'm very patient with small children :rotfl:.
