Wow, that's scary ! Reminds me of being a nursing auxiliary in the late 60's for holiday work, and being left on my own (aged 17) on a double Nightingale ward regularly while the nurses had their pm break. Only 15 mins, and fortunately nothing awful happened - but it so easily could have done.
I'm thinking you must be developing a confident and efficient manner about you that helps forestall trouble.
I guess you're appreciating the lovely weather from a washing point of view - just the time of year to wash things that only need an annual trip in the washing-machine. Hope it continues at least a bit longer.0 -
Did your lunch time supervisor see you alone with that number of children - I would make it known should it happen again - not a good situation if there was an accident with one of the children (just something as simple as a fall) We have a supervisor who checks everyone is where they should be and shuffles staff (or gets extra hands - head teacher, or deputy) at the beginning of each lunchtime. Not many weeks until you break up now :T:TJanuary spends - £587.580

Evening HHD
Well done on completing 82% of your course, you're definitely on the home run now :T
Our Head or Deputy would often do playground duty as well - there was always somebody ringing in sickIt's an odd job in a way isn't it. You'd think people would be jumping at it, but in our school we really struggled to find staff. Just a couple of hours slap bang in the middle of the day obviously didn't appeal to many people.
Is there any talk yet of vacancies next term for TA's? xx0 -

Yes it is perfect drying weather.Did your lunch time supervisor see you alone with that number of children - I would make it known should it happen again - not a good situation if there was an accident with one of the children (just something as simple as a fall) We have a supervisor who checks everyone is where they should be and shuffles staff (or gets extra hands - head teacher, or deputy) at the beginning of each lunchtime. Thanks Milann. I told the lunch supervisor as she went past that I was alone with 90 children and she chucked a few balls and hoops into the playground for me, but she didn't suggest anyone could be swopped over to help me. But she probably thought my colleague would arrive any minute. If it happens again I'll ask her if someone can help me until my colleague gets there.

Thanks TF2. Several of our MTAs have been in the job for over twenty years, but I can see that it wouldn't suit everyone having to go in every day just for an hour and a half. It suits me though as I'm there most mornings anyway volunteering
.
No mention of any TA vacancies yet, I don't think they come up very often.

I've had a tiring day!
I was on the school trip today so I've been supervising children from 8.55am until 3.25pm without a break . It was a fun day though. The children built dens, climbed trees, did pond dipping and caught butterflies in nets. We had lovely weather too.
No one was sick on the coach which is always a bonus :rotfl: although several sick bags were handed out to children who felt queasy. The boy sitting behind me talked to me about Pokemon ALL the way home :rotfl:.
I've got a really sore ankle now though for some reason so I'm sitting here with some ice on it. I don't know what I've done to it, so I may be limping to school tomorrow! At least I remembered to take my packed lunch and put on sun block, although I forgot to put any on my feet, so my feet are a bit red and I'm going to get weird tan lines .
Being in the classroom tomorrow will seem restful by comparison.
