Hi everyone! I just made three cookies in jars for Christmas presents. I'll put some nice ribbon round them nearer the time. I think my layering could have been neater, but I don't think it's too bad for a first try!
Left : first jar I made. Cranberry and White chocolate cookie.
Middle: second jar I made. Chocolate chip cookie.
Right: last jar I made (which is why it's the neatest!). Cranberry cookie as above minus the White chocolate.
Both recipes were found in this thread. Somewhere!!
I bought my jars from asda. I think they were £3.40 for all three.
I love all the crafting/homemade ideas and I'm so pleased to find one I can do with a good result!!!Trying hard to money save....0 -
They look fantastic!!
I have got most of my ingredients to make my Christmas muffins but am having problems finding tropical mix, will have to go up town tomorrow and check in the health food shops. I'm presuming it will be ok to make them now then and they'll still be ok for Christmas?"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
I don't suppose you have the recipe for the chocolate chip cookie do you? I am desperately trying to find one in UK measurements!? All the ones I seem to be finding are US???
Thanks

That's not a silly question Rusty (it's usually me that asks the silly questions ). You need a jar that seals completely - either glass or plastic would be fine. I got a plastic one from Julian Graves to do what your talking about for my eldest son for Xmas. It has a screw top lid. If I was going for glass I'd buy a kilner one like bunbuns.
I am going to use Twinks hobnob recipe as adapted by Shaz mum of 2 (think I saw it on the crafty for Xmas thread)...
Biscuits for Santa Recipe
115g self raising flour
115g oats
½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
115g butter
115g brown sugar
1 tablespoon golden syrup
50g white chocolate chunks
50g dried cranberries
Melt golden syrup and butter gently in a pan
Add all the dry ingredients and stir well until it forms a dough
Place walnut sized balls onto a baking tray and flatten with a fork
Bake for about 10 minutes until golden
Leave to cool on the tray for a couple of minutes before removing to a wire rack
So I am going to layer the jar with flour and bicarb at the bottom, then sugar, then oats, then cranberries, then white chocolate on top. I am going to include the recipe with the jar and we're going to make the biscuits on Xmas Eve for Santa!
Here you go! However, this didn't fill my jar up. If you look closely at my photo you can see the choc chips only come up to where the jar gets thinner at the top. I ended up putting mini marshmallows on the top because I was worried about it all jiggling around!! Maybe you could increase the quantities by a 6th? Or maybe a smaller jar?
Either way, good luck!!)

i have just made me first pressie in a jar. its the good food christmas muffin mix.
don't know how to post photo.
my jar was a little too big so I put muffin cases in the middle of the jar and added my tropical fruit mix around side to hide them. it came out ok. the hardest bit was making the ribbon I tied around it look pretty enough with equal sized loops etc lol.0 -

Not quite the same league as the other gifts in a jar but this is so lovely so couldn't resist sharing it with you. An excellent idea I think ..... http://www.vippins.com/how-to-make-fairies-in-a-jar/Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
