My DS1 loves his Chill Pill jar I gave for his birthday (20 today!).

I used an old Douwe Egberts coffee jar and filled it with mint imperials - his favourite sweet. Methinks I might have to make one for his GF, so they can have one at each home!

I too plan on making some journal jars/notebooks for the coming year...at least I should have enough time to get them done!!

Now off to sew up the first of next year's pressies - fingerless gloves, though I might keep them for myself as I think I need them to stay warm enough to knit anything else! They only took a few hours to knit, and I have enough wool to make another 3 pairs! the first set will be for my friend's 50th in April...this is sounding dagerously organized for me...it'll never last!

  • I would love to make some journaling jars but my family don't really like doing that sort of thing.

I got a knitting kit for Christmas and I am about a third of the way through it. Thinking about doing home made scarves but think I will need to practice a little more :D

In the effort to find some way of making socks look more appealing, we've made "toe jam". Couple of pairs of socks in a jam jar, DD's have designed and coloured in lables (including bar code and Best before dates) and we've cut out some gingham to tie round the top.
pooky - love the idea of Toe Jam..............how did you do the bar code and Best before dates on the label ?
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Hi Ellie71, journal in a jar sounds interesting but how did you actually do it? Sounds like a great present. I hope your dad likes it.

I put some ideas on here last year I think..........reckon I'll have to re-read it again.......I'd forgotten about the toe jam and someone gave me some bed socks last year (never wear them) in a sort of purple/black mixture.........would that look like jam do you think ?
Aiming for a cheap christmas so I'm hanging on to coffee jars and gravy tubs..........had some pringles tubes from last christmas and have filled two of them as 'Pamper tubs'............cheap bath stuff decanted into a prettier bottle rescued from the kitchen, freebies I've had, and anything else I find thats really cheap.
Thought of a 'snooze tub'............bed socks, sachet of horlicks and ovaltine with a mug and maybe one of little books of 'nice quotes'.

The other year everyone had a 'safe keeping' jar..........medium size jar, toilet roll middle put in the centre and surrounded by dried peas(or anything like that) -stick pretty gigham top round it and put kitchen label on..............somewhere to stash spare keys/fiver etc. in the kitchen cupboards. Did one for my son and filled his with raw plugs so he could put his spare house key in it in the shed.
The way OH was going frantic the other day looking for batteries for the remote I think I'll do him one for 'emergencies' -when you run out of things like that.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

  • A nice 'christmas treat' in a jar idea

Not exactly a jar but a nice thrifty present good for those who don't want anything! Remembered the poem as my mum got one of these years ago, googled it and low and behold there are lots of sites with the idea. Just wrap a small box(make one out of card?) and wrap it up really nice with this poem on the front :)

This is a very special gift
    That you can never see.
The reason it's so special is,
It's just for you from me.
    Whenever you are happy,
    or even feeling blue.
    You only have to hold
    this gift and know
    I think of you.

    You never can unwrap it
    Please leave the ribbon tied.
    Just hold the box close
    to your heart,
    It's filled with love inside
    .

I wonder if anyone can help me with a poem to go with an idea similar to the above.

At the start of the year, my mum lost her partner of 22 years. He was buried in Ireland where he lived (mum planned to join him there this year) but never got the chance. Now she will only get chance to visit his resting place a few times a year (October half term will be her 3rd visit) and I thought it would be nice to give her something with a message on that she could leave at the grave for him.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
