I've trailed all round town this morning and come to the conclusion that our little woolworths is determing not to stock what I want........nor is our tesco.........would never have thought it so hard to get a storage jar.......they've got expensive ones with coffee and tea stamped on them but nothing else........apart from plastic see through containers for the fridge !
Still I did pick a couple of pairs of socks up from woolworths in their reduced pile -£1.50 for the two, and they'll do for my sock snowmen. They're white with red check frilly tops -hoping that will do as the hat..........lol
So far got two gravy granule tins I've rescued from the bin (OH thinks I've gone potty) and can use one for a 'can of sunshine' with sherbet lemons in it - not sure what to do with the other...........they're for the grandchildren and I want them to be similar but not the same.Mary

I'm not sure if this is any help to you Mary43, but I recently bought some storage jars for the Amazing Facts jars I'm making. I got them from Julian Graves (the place which sells the dried fruits and nuts). They had quite a good selection of different sized ones starting from 99p, with pastel coloured lids.0

Hi All!
Got another jar today so thats 7 of them now! Still need to work out what I'm putting in them all though lol.
Mary - if you can't get rainbow drops you could get skittles (taste the rainbow) or you could get those hard boiled blue mints (don't know what they are called but you could get them in sweet shops) and call it a can of moonlight. Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
CJ - haven't got a shop like that here..........I did think about asking one of the small sweet shops if they ever have any spare jars but I'll hang on now till after the school boot fair on Sunday...........you never know, someone might be getting rid of some.
We've got some jars in the pantry but they're all in use.
siren - thanks for the 'moonlight' suggestion.........gives me a bit of a choice.
Now off to google images for sunshine, rainbow and moonbeams.............lolMary

Hello what actually do you do with a journal in a jar? How many questions do you put in, i have seen the website with questions but I mean what actually happens what kind of jar do you use and how many questions do you put in?
Thank you xx:jHas saved so much money since joining this forum, thanks to all you kind people out there :j0 -
As far as I know you can put as little or as many questions in as you like.
Any kind of jar would do really. The questions can be whatever sort you'd maybe like answers to....things like, what were schooldays like, what did they eat, cost of things, all sorts really then they can write the answers in the journal that goes with the jar.
A lot of ellderly people are very good at remebering their childhood and relish being given the chance to either talk about it or write it down.
Wish I'd know about these before my Dad died..........he'd have loved it.
Rainmac could tell you more as she's done one - I haven't.
On one of the sites (you could google Journal in a Jar and find loads I'm sure) there are sample questions you can use if you want to or can just follow them as a guideline.
Hope that helps. I'm sure someone can tell you more. Good luckMary

I put 12 in. Think of some self help books you've read or exercises in magazines you 've liked doing. Here are a couple of mine.... You'll see why I only put in 12.
I have pictures on mine too - I know some people just use text. Because I have lots of craft stuff already I have also pasted it onto pretty paper and tied them up with ribbon of some kind. Others do more, on plain paper and just fold them. It's your choice really.
Do the Rocking Chair Test
Picture your life 40 years from now, if you keep doing what you have always done.
What will it look like? Where are you?
Who is with you, if anyone? Who visits you?
How do you spend your time?
What lasting legacy are you leaving behind?
What are your key accomplishments?
What was your proudest moment?
How happy and content are you? Do you have regrets?
What do you wish you had done differently?
Now picture your life if you lived to the full, loved much and took appropriate risks, how good could your life be when you look back in 40 years? Answer the same questions again but this time think about what you need to change to achieve that. Aim to make one change towards that goal, this week.
Practice Gratitude
If you were subject to a “Thanks audit” how well would you do?
Do you remember to be grateful for your health, your home, your nearest and dearest, the sunshine and the rain?
Every week, write down 10 things you are grateful for. Try to find new ones each week – that will keep your brain juices flowing and depression at bay!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I have done 2 jars so far - one for my friend who is turning 40 and the other for my nan who is 85. I am giving a jar, A4 notebook and pen as the gift.
Each jar has around 50 questions in and I've added some instructions to select a question and write about it every week - so in theory the exercise should last about a year. I've used 0.5l jars from Ikea, added a glue stick to the jar with the questions so the recipient can glue the question into the next page in the book before writing about it.
Hope that helps.
My jars...
I used this site for lots of my questions (previously posted by someone else), some I amended and made up to suit the recipient.
Hope that helps, please say if you have any more questions or if this doesn't make sense. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0
