rainmac - I was dead chuffed.........looked everywhere for jars of some sort and there were none at all so went back to the stall where I first saw the tins, right at the entrance, and they were still there. Bit of a bonus as well.......one of them had a packet of lavender incense burners in it.....................lol

Have now printed out a load of quotes..............think I'll have a look for some 'silly' ones for one of my sons...............and some useless facts of some sort.............lol
Dentist in the morning so won't get much done then....... Nearly forgot about that !!

I've subscribed to that journal thread Rainmac but now I'm going to be curious as to what folks answers would be :rotfl: It's going to help with the Journal gifts I'm adding to my list tho, so many thanks for the heads-up.

Any ideas of something for our really good friends, who are moving to the other end of the country? I'm wondering about a mix of "Remember when...", "Fascinating facts" about why it's called the threshold, the place they're leaving & the one they're going to, "Quotes" & bog-standard journal types...what do you think? Obviously it can't be too big cuz they need to transport it....

That sounds really great! I think it was Mary who mentioned town in a jar and it is a jar of facts/trivia all about a particular town. Your idea to do a mix of old and new locations sounds fab and a great pressie to receive :-)

Wasn't me who mentioned the town in a jar or 'town facts' - forget who it was now but I know the town was Newcastle.
Good idea BMF -like the 'remember when' idea.

After my 'find' of cheap tins yesterday I sort of fell into the charity shop after I''d been to the dentist (ouch) this morning and just had to buy the three stainlless steel storage jars that were sitting there for £1..........for some people I'm doing them for there'll be better that pretty tins.........the blokes in the family I''m thinking of..........don''t think they'll go a bundle of 'prettiness'.............lol

Think the chap in our health food shop is convinced I'm bonkers when I got some pickling spices this morning and explained they were for pickled bums...........need to put a layer at the bottom of the jar so grandson can't see my untidy stitching...................then I got some lavender (not enough in our garden) to stuff the baby camouflage socks with for 'trainer sweeteners'.....he can pop them in his trainers at night for 'sweet feet'...................lol

Right.................need a bit of help here now I think.

I've printed out my quotes to put in one of the tins I got today and was going to do some more to fill it up but OH says it needs something else, i.e. sweets as I said before. So, thought I'd do a label for it saying 'Pick 'n Mix' but on the other side want to do a rhyme or something to the effect that my son shuts his eyes and has a sort of lucky dip.......might get a sweet, might get a quote or both.................anyone any good at that sort of thing ? I've racked my poor little brain cells and come up with zilch !

  • how about something like...

Open the jar and close your eyes
Wiggle your fingers to choose your prize
It might be a silly fact or quote
In fact, whatever rocks your boat
It might be a chocolate or even a sweet
Or maybe both, what a treat!
  • Or maybe

There once was a boy with a jar
Who was asked (just 'cos he's a star)
    To grab out a treat:
    A quote or a sweet
From his loving old ma and pa.
