I watched the postman not bother delivering my parcel

Even if he could not fit your delivery in your post box he should have come to your door to deliver it...and would have to if it required a signature
The phone numbers and details of how to complain to royal mail are online. I guess its doubly annoying that you specifically wanted the delivery for that evening and now its useless...i would tell Royal mail this...maybe just a thick postman0 -
Do you have a dog? Is the gate locked or difficult to open?
It still seems strange that he actually carried the parcel to the gate knowing you have a box there and would leave a card unless there was a reason for him not to come up to the house.
How do you know that the postie knew there was a box0 -

Because ninety nine out of a hundred times it will be a postie who knows the round, whether the main regular one or one of the relief ones trained on the round. What are the chances that on top of the other coincidences here that it was also a brand new postie who didn't know the house at all? It would also make sense that a postie who didn't already know there was a box but was carrying a parcel wouldn't have looked for a box 200ft from the house but would have walked through the gate and headed to the front door automatically.0 -

He left a card in our post box which is next to our gate as I can only assume he couldn't be bothered to lock his van, open the gate and walk to our house to knock on the door.
He never came to our door to actually attempt the delivery.
I'd be grateful for some useful replies rather than just accusations that I'm lying.
Well now we get into the semantics of RMs delivery requirements.
Technically your delivery point is the box on the gate.
is this set up due to previous issues?0 -

If your front door is that sort of distance away maybe you should look at getting some form of intercom fitted at the gate or maybe a box, big enough for parcels.
I guess you could even try putting a sign on the box saying "Please deliver parcels to the front door". It might work.0 -

is this set up due to previous issues?I agree with this. By placing your box on the front gate you've effectively moved you delivery point to the gate rather than your front door, therefore the postman would be under no obligation, having been unable to leave a parcel there, to then come onto your property and walk the further distance up to your front door. If your front door is that sort of distance away maybe you should look at getting some form of intercom fitted at the gate or maybe a box, big enough for parcels.
That's nonsense. What you're suggesting is that I needed to stand next to the postbox all morning ready to sign for it.
In four years of living here, the postman, Amazon, DHL etc., have always come to the house and rung the doorbell when delivering parcels.0 -

Nonsense?
Well I bow to your superior knowledge of what RM policy is on delivery points or DPs in RM terminology.0 -
I suggested no such thing, but if you're going to have the point of delivery away from the house then it's entirely your responsibility to ensure there are adequate instructions or means to contact you directly. What is it a "signed for" parcel or just a standard parcel that was just too big?
Instructions?? Is it not widely understood that people live in houses? And therefore, if the parcel requires a signature from the person the parcel is addressed to, it would make sense that the postman would approach the door of the house, knock/ring the door bell and wait for the homeowner to appear at which point he could hand over the parcel and request a signature?
If not, then what you're suggesting is that, by having a postbox, I must stand next to ready to sign for it as the postman has no obligation to actually come to the front door.
And if I have apparently moved my delivery point to my gate, all the hundreds of times that the postman has come to my door, he was essentially tresspassing?
Plus, is the contract not between the seller and Royal Mail? The seller has paid Royal Mail to deliver the parcel to me pre-1pm on a Saturday and obtain a signature as proof. They failed to do that.0
