  • Hi

Am currently claiming charges back from Barclaycard Sent letter on 11/11/09 received a reply saying they would reply by 8/12/09 - didnt hear anything yesterday so called customer services today who didnt know anything about my letter. Is there a particular department/telephone no that I should call or should I do straight to sending the next letter.

This is the first time I have tried to reclaim any credit card charges but did have some success with Halifax bank charges - successfully reclaimed £2000
    Thanks
  • Hello all, I'm after a little advice to do with Egg & reclaiming charges & interest on the charges.

On the 8Th of September 2009 I paid off what was shown as the full amount on the screen. Then proceeded to cancel the direct debit as I was no longer going to use the card.

I've now had a phone call telling me my account is arrears to the sum of £60.79. But if I were to pay that amount there would be still be 77p added at the end of the month when the statement is made. Even though they calculate interest daily the don't show it on the balance online till the statement is printed. The only way to fully pay the balance off is to ring them up & ask for the correct balance to clear the account. This isn't shown clearly on the site & seems like a tactic they use to catch people out.

I'm slightly miffed as these fines for not paying (as I cancelled the DD) & the interest on top is not for something I've bought. I have contacted the FSA who have recommended that I go down the complaints procedure with egg & if they don't offer a final response by the end of 8 weeks the FOS will step in.

My questions are, has any one else had this happen to them & what was the outcome. I know that if I don't pay I'll get more fines & more interest & may still have to pay it all if the FOS goes against me, but is it better to take the risk & make them wait for there ill gotten gains.

Sorry for the essay but all advice will be gratefully received

In my experience you need to ring or write to get a final balance. This is common practise to be honest and always has been.
Imagine your statement to arrive on the 1st of the month and you owe £1000. So you pay off £1000 on the 22nd of the month and cancel DD. There is still 22 days of interest you need to pay. They can not give you this every single day otherwise you would get a statement everyday so the put the whole months interest on the next statement.
Without sounding harsh and i hate to say it but your CC company is right and i dont think they will budge on it.
My advice is get it paid off ASAP and then try and reclaim. At the same time ring and explain.

I would pay what they want to zero the account and then proceed with the reclaiming procedure on this site to get the charges back it's a bit long winded but you will get the charges back and you don't use the card anymore so you wont miss it
  • Just to update, Sky Card (Barclaycard) have agreed to pay out as a gesture of Goodwill!! all my charges plus 8% interest!! Woo Hoo!

Thanks to all for the advice

    Hi all

I have been sucessful with both Mint and Tesco finance to the tune of £400 ish with both but have no refund yet. As both accounts have a default on them or are overlimit they have said they will not give me a cheque only reduce the amount owing.

I need to know can they do this and if not what is my arguement against them to stop it. I have already told them the charges cause dme financial hardship so do I send a letter back telling them to refund me by cheque otherwsise I wills seek maximum publicity against them? Any help plse.

It's standard for them to credit the a/c and reduce the outstanding balance.

So in essence best to stop wasting my letters to them and just request the credit? I suppose this i sfair enough as I have borrowed the money from the, but I will just fight it with the CCA letter
