Credit Card Reclaiming Discussion

Hi all,
Sent Natiownide a letter for credit card charges totalling £12-00 quoting the usual OFT quotes etc and had a response last Friday refusing to repay charges.
Sent them another letter on Saturday using Moneysavingexpert's template threatening them with legal action if I didn't get my money back. Hey presto....got a letter this morning offering to pay me £13-87 as a 'gesture of good will', which I have accepted.
If Natiownide hadn't compromised, I would have taken the legal action as there is now way their late payment costs are £12-00. I believe that they are less that £3-00 as are all of the other banks and building societies.
My advise to everyone is to go through the whole process and take any of them to a Small Calims Court if they refuse to refund the money. The last thing they want is to have to substantiate their costs in a court of law, because it would create a precedance by showing their charges are unfair and lead to further claims from consumers.0 -
I am in the process of many claims the majority of which are credit card charges.
I sent out the intial batch of letters on Nov 5th along with some PPi claims ( all the PPI claims have been acknowledged except Hailifax , A&L even settled ) however there is no such speed from the bank on cc charges , anyone know why ? with the exception of HSBC who have written to me 4 times to clarify & make an offer - which I have declined today.
RBS - no response
Nat West - no response
Cap 1 - no response
Lloyds tsb - no response
Barclaycard- no response
This lack of response actually spurs me on to keep at them & makes me want to claim for every last penny.
When they want money they chase relentlessly , about time they applied the same tactics to REFUNDS.

I sent a SAR to Sainsbury's bank over 40 days ago. They sent me a letter 2 weeks ago saying that they had received it.
When a company has 40 days to reply, is it the information they have to give within 40 days or just a standard letter saying they have received my SAR?

Does todays ruling in the supreme court regarding bank charges have any effect on the credit card charge reclaiming.
Thanks0 -
natjam100...i was just thinking the same...just sorted my letters out this morning and was going to write my cheques to get copies of my statements...think i will hold off.
Anyone has any info...seems the ruling is that the OFT cannot tell banks (credit card companies) what fees to charge.0 -
The news story on the home page has just answered my question which is good news.
'The result does not affect other reclaiming, including credit card charges, PPI, Council Tax and more'0 -
Hi, all. I had a credit card with Lloyds TSB for £1400 and the balance at the moment is just over £1600 due to charges etc. The account is now closed even though i have a current account with them. Every month the minimum repayment is £60+ which i just can't afford, so therefore i get a late payment charge added and they then take money from my current account as soon as my wage goes in. What i want to know, is if i start a claim with them to refund the charges from years ago when it was over £12 and i win, will they deposit the money into my current account or just knock it off the balance of my credit card? I have sent letters with my financial statements to all debt collectors chasing me for other things and have agreed payment plans with them...but TSB just don't want to help me with my credit card. I've wrote asking if they can freeze the interest so that any payments i make will actually come off the balance and not just paying the interest but they said no. I simply can't afford it. Please help.

If you do get a refund on any charges it would go towards the balance of that credit card, rather than refunded into your bank account. Surely you would prefer this balance to go down that you are paying interest on rather than having money to spend? It would work out better in the long run. Fingers crossed you get a result
I claimed my bank charges back 2 year ago, just before all claims were all suspended, but ironically just got round to doing my egg card and hsbc card this morning when i saw the verdict. Fingers crossed I can put these claims in still. If I get the difference to £12 on my Egg card it will still be £130, which would be nice towards the outstanding balance on a card that they suspended once citi had taken over. Just as i'd paid a £500 payment towards it!! Grrrr.Wage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0
