Hello all! Bouncing back in - I know, I know, posting twice in the same day is a bit much - sorry :p

Had a happy day today - DH off on an overnight work training thingy and had a lovely lunch with a friend. Home-made carrot and ginger soup, big bar of chocolate and a recorded episode of Dr Foster - bliss!

Yorkie I hope the 'flu doesn't make it's way around the family. I've only ever had 'flu once and I thought I was going to die.

Karma is indeed a great thing Jazee. I hope the horrid ex-boss hates the new role....

90 years young for your MiL MrsMP - huge congratulations :j my Grandma got to 104, so I'm hoping to have inherited her immortality gene too!

I snorted my tea over the RSCPA bin comment Pigpen. Sometimes I feel exactly this way about Tiny (who is asleep looking like an angel, as I type...appearances eh?)

I am indeed on a roll Fayolle! I can finally see things coming together - more work planned next week, so flying might take a back seat.

Did I mention I had an entire forest delivered for firewood? So LW, I will see your half a tree and I'll raise you a wooded glade for the BDs. :rotfl:

Hi to aklmatthews - welcome to the [STRIKE]madhouse[/STRIKE] funhouse!

And Honey Bear....chocolate orange? *Bork*. You savage. Someone said they were buy one, get two free in the supermarket. See! They can't give those horrid things away.

    Laters xxxx

Evening all. Just popping in to say hi from my holiday cottage in Wales. We are in a beautiful village called Lledrod in a gorgeous cottage. Have been spending most of the week at my sister's zoo in Borth.. It's also been a restful break for DH AWAY from stresses of real life. Neither of us want to come home.. lol But I think my three cats might complain if we don't come back..although Banji pup is enjoying the new sniffs. Hope everyone is ok and I'll see you all at the weekend. Love and spoons xxxx

  • I had a moment earlier. One of those where I show a little bit too much of my personality, IYSWIM?

Set up the stage for tonight's PR event. This involved wrangling a class of 'helpers' who, in all fairness, did the donkey work in getting the gear up there, so the next hour spent fixing the things they hadn't done right was OK. Supervised and dealt with annoying people trying to push their luck over lunch. Waited to fix the damaged decorations and then did it when my presence was not distracting for the senior member of staff to march kids through rehearsals of walking onto stage and off again. Then spent time at soundcheck sorting out the carefully tuned instruments, retuning them where the kids had decided EADGBE was only a serving suggestion and messed around with them, scuttling round onstage adjusting settings, adding crunch and distortion and carefully setting the levels so the less adept weren't so high in the mix.

Then I had to sort out some gels to make the stage lights pretty colours. Which meant wrangling a massive ladder with the person actually prepared to go up it (which I wasn't), etc, etc. Physical, potentially dangerous, finding out we have no safety equipment, etc, but knowing I had exactly one hour in which to sort it and some floor lights.

Right before I finished, I was tired and still aching from yesterday's crawling around decorating. A member of management clip clopped on stage and complained that the solid oak lectern was at floor level and not on the stage. It was in a perfect position and it's solid oak. I'm not moving the thing. It's not my job to move it in any case and would involve damaging the decorations and juggling it past the mics, guitars and other equipment. So I politely said that it's in a perfect position where it is, but she'd need to get x to move it up if she wanted it onstage because it's too heavy. She clip clopped off for five minutes, then came back and scowled at everything onstage.

She asked who was going to be onstage. I replied x guitars, bass, drums, keys, singers, horn section...which is what you do when asked that question. Her expression told me that she couldn't add that up, so I told her the total. This displeased her greatly. As I was in the process of bringing down the ladder, she walked over to the PA speaker and board - the thing wot all the leads plug into - kicked it and said 'do we really need this ugly thing up here?'.

And I slipped up. I replied 'well, if you want anybody to be able to hear the band playing or anything you're saying, you do'.

She went away then. And the person who had been up the ladder came out from behind a curtain shaking with laughter at me for sounding just like every soundman and stage manager he's ever known.

    Ooops.

Came home, sat on the bed in the spare room to talk to Himself and promptly fell asleep. I've just woken up.

Himself has been tidying the spare room as I snored away, put the hot water and heating on, plus been to the shop for something to eat.

If I go back to sleep again, I wonder whether I'll wake up to find the cleaning pixies have done any more of the house?

WHERE? I need to get stocked up urgently! I absolutely love them and it'll relieve you and other haters from having to even see them. Pleeeeeease.

Have a lovely holiday Natty. You both deserve it.

JoJo you have the patience of a saint. All you did was tell it like it is; I've have slapped the idiot. (My slap reflex is a bit out of control at the moment, so I have to avoid certain situations.)

Dinner cooked, scoffed, eaten and everything washed up, and I'm going to get a much needed early night while OH is at the pub quiz.

Tesco, saw them today and resisted. I love them too and could easily eat a whole one myself in one sitting, so I didn't buy them ;)

HB - feel free to help yourself to my share when you go to stock up! I'm a bounty hunter myself, so just love it when the tub of mini chocolates comes round at Christmas....everyone hates the coconut apart from me, so more for me to pig out on!

Natty - so glad that you and Dave are having a lovely holiday.

I ticked a few jobs off at various times today, but not as much as I would have liked. I got the bathroom cleaned, but not sure why, as it now looks like I didn't bother. DH has just gone to make me a cup of tea.....I'm trying to figure out what he's done wrong!

I don't feel particularly saintly. I do try and remind myself repeatedly every single day that these are Very Important People and I am but a mere Minion - but I really don't think it's on a par with North Korean Ballistics Engineering to deduce that the thing with eleventy billion leads plugged into it from the various instruments and microphones - and a giant speaker - probably has something to do with how the system makes noise.

The slap reflex is exactly the reason why sound, lighting and stage technicians are characterised as being grumpy and antisocial - they're having conversations whilst under things and on ladders because if they were actually face to face, there would be an awful lot of people laid spark out on stages across the land.

I'm just thankful that the current paid overtime ban means I'm perfectly entitled to down tools and walk out the door at 1700 hours precisely, as I didn't fancy having to deal with her or any other managers/leaders this evening - especially when there's wine being provided - as I'm pretty sure that they'd only want to change everything five minutes before the start and then complain that I'm wearing work appropriate clothing and footwear, rather than a dress and heels.

Himself bought and cooked All of the Food in the Supermarket. I'm stuffed. But he didn't buy me a beer or gin. I'm feeling let down.

So I'm going to have that bath now, as the odds of going to sleep before 3am are pretty minimal now I've slept for nearly three hours.

  • Plain chocolate orange, my favourite, fortunately they aren't available here so I just get the one a year my friend brings me for Christmas, I guess that keeps the desire even stronger.

Yesterday was long, meeting at 7.30 then back home for a couple of hours then back in work all afternoon until 7.30. Exhausted when I got home. But did get the ironing done, the WU done and the kitchen tidied in the middle of the day and OH had dinner started when I got home so not so bad.

Living room, perfect for me as we were talking about moving bits around so a good excuse to clean under the sofa. (Dread to think what will be found). Bright sunny day forecast here and no work, just a visit to estate agents, so time to FLY.

Note to self: Don't get distracted when I go into town to see estate agents, don't go near dress shop!

Hope others can share my sunshine
  • Morning all

Rubbish nights sleep and absolutely full of cold. Have cancelled all paid stuff and will be crawling back under duvet as soon as I'm home from school run. DW loaded and turned on, kiddies dressed and fed - that's about as good as it gets today!

Thank you JoJo for making me chuckle very loudly today... been there, done that, got given the t shirt at the end of the gig. :D

Once I get back from today's overtime, I'll clear the decks for the weekend, starting with filling the fridge...
