I was claiming against Citi for about £150. after much dispute citi took 60 days to even reply and send my charges. Financial ombudsman helped me out and I referred my case further to them , they have managed to give me £592.03 (as a gesture of goodwill from the compnay) including interest of 8% on top. wow to F.O for the great help. Citi Financial credit card could not prove the charges were reaosnable. :T (now the next one is capital one now in deadlock!)

  • Date claimed: 01/04/08
    Amount claimed: £117.93 includes interest

They ignored my first three letters and tried to pass them off as part of the bank account charges case but I persevered and got back what was rightfully mine in the first place.

    Refund received: 23/01/09
    Amount received: £118.12

Thank you to all the team at MoneySavingExpert.com

    Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £452 + Interest = £578.30 in total
    Amount they paid: £578.30
    The story:

I wrote to them requested details of charges. On the 9th of March I wrote to them asking for the amount above included interest - received letter on 12 March confirming they would pay it all!

What a quick turnaround! Am very very very impressed! Thank you so much Martin and the team.
  • Provider: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed:60 ( 5 x £12 charges) + £3.07 interest
    Amount they paid: 68.56
The story: My wife's credit card, after getting list of charges and cheque for £10 returned as "we do not charge for this service" I replied with the template second letter on 5th March asking for all charges back (even though they were all the £12 "maximum allowable")
Letter received 12th March offering £68.56 as a goodwill gesture!
    Result!
Interestingly though, I claimed charges back on my own HSBC card at the same time, and followed the same path of replying asking for the return of these charges (£260 + Interest). On the same day I got the settlement offer from HSBC "Service Failure Resolutions" Department, I also received a reply to my credit card reclaim, using the exact same phrases ( I guess copy and paste is everywhere now) except that this one contains no offer and is basically a "get lost" reply. I will, naturally, pursue this with great vim and vigour and take great pleasure in receiving this particular refund. I like it when they struggle a bit.

Next is Capital Scum, then Barclays and MBNA on behalf of my other half.

I was dubious about claiming back the £12 charges, but i went for it and i got them back too!

Good luck - you will get a result in the end.

29th Jan 09 sent off £10 and request for statements

26th Feb 09 request refund of charges plus interest £861.82 (1st letter)

18th March receive letter confirm full refund (£861.82)

Can't believe how easy it was, didn't even need to send 2nd letter, now cleared balance, so one less direct debit each month,

    Thanks Martin, great help!!!!!!!!!
  • Just thought I would let you know, I managed to get Barclaycard to give me back my charges to the tune of £180.00. It only took one letter (from this site) and six days and they paid up. It's a great feeling and it's all down to this fab and helpful website. Am still working on (predictably...) the Bank of Scotland charges on my husband's card but I am at the second letter stage now-and I am not afraid to use it!! It just shows you that you have the right to get this cash back!
