    Provider: Capital One
    Amount Reclaimed:£920 (inc interest)

    Amount they paid:£720
    The story:
defaulted on credit card with small outstanding balance. Amount grew to over £800 all of which was charges and over limit fees etc.

After being passed to SCA i challenged the amount owed and asked for statements back in July 2008.

Provided the statements and after i went through them it was clear that the majority of the debt was charges. Wrote to them asking them to regund ALL charges and interest.

they came back and offered £250. In their opinion was unable to repay more as their charges were fair etc and they couldn't pay more.

I declined their offer and said I would go to the ombudsman if they didn't increase their offer. they declined and i wrote to the ombudsman in November 2008.

Had a response last week where the Ombudsman said that Capital One didn't want to have an investigation and whilst they did not acknowledge any wrongdoing on their part nor did they agree their charges were unfaur etc in order to settle thisthey offered £720 to settle the matter, which i have accepted.

The moral is stick with it and be persistant. they will pay up.

thanks to this site for the help etc

    Amount Reclaimed:£1606.56
    Amount They Paid: £1606.56

I sent my 1st letter to MBNA last year requesting a copy of all my charges - but bottled out on doing anything about it when it came through. However I decided that 2009 is the year I become debt free and with a little bit of help from Martin and all you guys on these forums I started the process. I sent my 1st letter to MBNA on 5th Feb 09 requesting all my charges plus the 8% as suggested. I did put a PPI charge request at the same time. In one letter I was told I would hear back by the 8th Mar 09 regarding my PPI charges and in another for my default charges they wrote back on the 16th Feb 09 saying they would offer me a "goodwill payment" of £504 . Initially I thought fantastic. I looked over the forums and everybody seemed to make me feel that I wanted to go on and try for the full amount. I sent the second letter on 19th Feb 09 stating that I hadn't had a satisfactory repsonse and that again I requested £1606.56. I received a letter yesterday 7th Mar 09 offering to pay me a further "goodwill payment" of £1102.56 in addition to the £504 the already paid "goodwill payment". The full amount of £1606.56
    This means I won !!!!:j :j :j :j
I made a quick telephone call to MBNA yesterday to pay £6.02 to clear my balance and during the conversation was told I should be receiving a letter with all my PPI charges listed. I won't close the account just yet.
I didn't tell them I'm going to claim all those back as well!!:rotfl:

I thank all of you for giving me the support to fight back what is rightfully mine. I will never ever go back to where I have just come from.

    Provider: Monument now Barclaycard
    Amount Claimed - £888.00 plus interest £1,180.00
    Amount they paid: £1,180.00
    The story:

Sent my first letter 15 November 2008 asking for my statements, recieved letter back on 22 December which just listed my charges

Sent letter 6 Jan requesting £888.00 plus interest total of £1,180.00
Letter back 27 Jan putting me on hold until 24 Feb

Letter recieved on 2 Feb offering me £129.60 as good will gesture, but I never recived this letter so phoned on 24th to be told it would be credited in my account within 5 working days and copy letter sent out to me, in the meantime I wrote and said thanks for the credit but I actually want £1,180.00

Phoned on 6th March and was told that the GWG was cos they dont have my details anymore, I said funny that seeing as though YOU sent me the details. I was told to fax this over to them and they would call me back. Phoned today as heard nothing and was told not to worry a further £1,050.40 would be credited to my account within the next 5 working days, very nice lady WOT A RESULT.

    Provider: Citi
    Amount Reclaimed: £910.00 plus interest
    Amount they paid: £800.00
    The story:

Eventually got my statements and worked out how much they owed.

Sent my first letter on 3 Feb 09 asking for all charges, recieved letter back on 17 Feb offering me £442.00, sent further letter on 20th Feb saying thanks but I would like at least £910.

Recieved a letter on 28th feb offering me £800.00, decided that more than I was expecting from Citi as believe that they can draw things out so I have accepted their kind offer.

    Total recieved £1,980.00.

I know I got my self into trouble by getting the charges, but these companies need to realise that if you are late paying your monthly payment and you are already at your limit, then how are you going to pay another £25.00 charge on top.

    Thanks to all

Using the MSE template letter, I claimed £71.20 in credit card fees - and interest - from HSBC dating back to 2006.

Within 10 days I've had a letter saying, "We don't agree we should pay this, but as a gesture of goodwill, we will pay it." Hoorah!!!!!! :T

    Claimed £760.00 plus interest
Amount they paid: £820.80 plus interest

Really pleased today to receive a letter from Barclaycard refunding me all charges.
Sent letter to them mid January requesting statements.
Short time later got statements and used interest calculator on this website to work out how much to ask for.
Sent first letter end Feb asking for full amount to be refunded.
Received first letter from barclaycard saying disagreed with my letter, charges fair but would refund the difference between the £20.00 and £12.00. Had £300.00 plus interest refunded to account.
Wrote second letter beginning of March and today have received letter confirming all of the charges will be refunded.

I am so pleased and am now looking forward to being able to pay off credit card for the first time in years!! Thankyou to everyone who gave their advice!!

I was claiming against Citi for about £150. after much dispute citi took 60 days to even reply and send my charges. Financial ombudsman helped me out and I referred my case further to them , they have managed to give me £592.03 (as a gesture of goodwill from the compnay) including interest of 8% on top. wow to F.O for the great help. Citi Financial credit card could not prove the charges were reaosnable. :T (now the next one is capital one now in deadlock!)
