  • Bank: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £1060 + 8% added = £1144.80
    Amount Received : £1144.80

    The Story:

Wrote to barclaycard in Nov 08 for credit card charges list.Enclosed £10 for fee.
8th Dec: Barclaycard sent the list of charges.
10th Dec: Wrote back to say that their charges were unfair etc, and asked for money back totalling £1060.

16th Dec: Received letter back saying charges were lawful etc, but goodwill gesture offered at £388.00 -(difference between incurred charges and £12 fee).

29th Dec: Wrote back to say that their offer was unsatisfactory and told them i was going to proceed through the courts to claim my money plus interest.
For a quick and speedy settlement- i offered to accept £750 with no more action on my part.

21st Jan 09: Got a final response letter from barclaycard saying that they were going to credit my account with the full total of £1144.80 as a (goodwill gesture):rotfl:

4th Feb: Barclaycard transfered funds into my bank account today, it should have been sooner,as i had to phone customer services to remind them to transfer the funds.:T:T:T:beer:

Overall i'm very happy and elated with the outcome, the money will come in handy as my works salary has just transfered from weekly to four weekly pay.

Many thanks to Martin and all you guys on the forum, helping with credit card charges.
Moral of the story: DON'T LET THEM WIN!!.

    Amount reclaimed £60.00 (£48.00 + interest)
    Amount received £48.00

    Requested charges details 22.01.09

    received back 30.01.09

requested refund of any charges above £12.00, which was 6 X £8.00 + 8% interest

received offer today 5.02.09 for £48.00 in full and final payment, I have sent off my form to accept, a bird in the hand, it may not be much but £48.00 I never thought I'd see again, and will bring my debt free date just a fraction sooner.

Also had a letter from my bank today to say they are considering my claim, its a business account so not covered by the court case, they did say it will be 6 - 7 weeks to respond.

  • Provider: Egg
    Amount Reclaimed:£360.00

    Amount they paid:£371.89
    The story:

    Sept 08: Statements Requested
Nov 08: Asked for £360 full costs back.
Dec 08: Letter back advising costs are fair and legal.
Jan 09: Letter sent back asking for full costs or £300.00 in 14 days.
Jan 09: letter back off Egg offering £12.00
Feb 09: Letter sent back advising unacceptable offer threatening court or full amount or £300.00 in 14 days and sent letter to Financial Ombudsman.
Feb 09 (2 days later): Letter back advising costs are fair but for "image purposes and to save a court hearing" offered £371.89 if accepted within 14 days. Also advises that their costs are fair but accepted this cliam as gesture of good will.
Feb 09: Accepted claim but not telling Financial Ombudsman until money in my account.

My advise is to get your claims in now and don't delay. So far me and the "bread knife" have claimed for £1600.00 and accepted £1350.00 like Martin Lewis says its not £250 lost its £1350.00 gained.

    Provider: NatWest
28th December: I request full and comprehensive list of charges, with £10 cheque

6th January: list of charges received, cheque returned, "as we do not charge for this service".
Full amount of charges: £360 over limit, £592 Late fees. Unfortunately, mostly £12 charges.

1st February: Letter to Natwest requesting refund of all the above charges .
6th Feb: Letter received from Natwest. They offer £160, the difference between the £12 charges and £20 charges.
    I accept.
I have to say they were extremely quick.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone at MSE. Today I received a letter from MBNA staing that they have credited £1107.06 to my account they had originally credited £502.00 early January. This means they have paid all my charges including the accrued 8% interest.

My advice to everyone is keep on claiming till you the full amount back.

    Thanks again Martin

Claimed £512.00 back from Capital One. Filed in October. Got a court case for 5th Feb. Capital One at first disputed the charges but as the case got closer they called me daily with a new offer (but not accepting liability LOL). Anyway accepted their last offer day before court case of £487.
So play hardball with them I say.
