Credit Card Reclaiming Success Stories

I have been reading this site on and off for the last few months. Decided to take the bull by the horns and sent one letter to Barclaycard on 7th July 2011 asking for my charges and interest to be refunded! Received letter on Saturday dated 9th August offering £468 in charges and £250.90 contractural interest in full and final settlement of my claim!
Without this site I would never have known how to claim this money! So thank you all so very much!
Egg have responded to me stating they say their charges are fair and lawful at £16.00 and for are not upholding my request to refund the charges in question and confirm that my complaint has now been closed. Can anyone advise where I go from here?0 -
Provider: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £126.10 (with £3.10 interest)
Amount they paid: £153.59
The story: I wrote a letter to HSBC on 9 August using the MSE template in order to get some extra cash to help pay off my credit card. I added the interest as a bargaining tool, hoping I wouldn't have to take it to court.
Received a letter back on the 17 August consisting of half a page about how their charges are fair and was considering just chucking it away and moving on to the Ombudsman until I saw that they were offering me a "goodwill" payment of £153.59! They added on the charges I'd received in August.
I'd received a late charge and an overlimit charge on the same day that I paid a chunk off my card that was causing me to be overlimit; I complained to HSBC and they refunded these charges too. So I've had 2 charges refunded twice essentially!
And I didn't even have to take it to court! :money:0 -
Provider: Post Office
Amount Reclaimed: £48
Amount they paid: £60.72
I wrote to Post Office Credit Cards 3 weeks ago asking for details of my late and over limit charges. They initially replied back saying they were dealing with my complaint and would be in contact. Today I have received a letter from them saying they would pay me for the 3 £12 charges plus £12.72 interest. I had not even got to the stage of asking them for anything back. Also I didn't send the £10 cheque and they still sent me the details.
However I sent the same letter to Capital One without payment and they wrote back asking for the £10 cheque so it did slightly delay the process. I am still awaiting a reply from them.
I am still awaiting answers from other providers so will update when I have heard.Car loan £8105.35 57/60 payments left of £141.80 per month
Loan £6687.23 55/58 payments left of £165 per month
Nationwide £1183 (0% interest until 02/2026)
Total debt £15975.480 -
Just been reading this thread with a lot of interest as I've fared very badly with charges over the years.
I hope this doesn't sound daft but what address are people using for these firms? Do you just send them to the general PO BOX? i.e. Santander being:
Santander UK PLC
PO Box 1125
BRADFORD
BD1 9PG
Many thanks in advance,

Further to this I have just received details of my charges back from Mint and did not send them the £10 cheque either. I now have to write to them and ask for my charges back plus interest. It is only £48 plus interest but it's worth a go!Car loan £8105.35 57/60 payments left of £141.80 per month

Another update, I was sent details of my charges from Tesco Creditcard without sending the £10 cheque also. So in summary that is now Mint, Post Office and Tesco that haven't demanded the £10 charge.
Capital one are the only one that has.Car loan £8105.35 57/60 payments left of £141.80 per month

credit card provider; MBNA
amount expected ;?
amount paid: £5208 !
I phoned MBNA to lodge a claim although I had cancelled the PPI 10 years ago, I still have the card, with a small rolling balance. ( silly I know !)
They were very polite, helpful and said it was so long ago it had been archived.
They tried to say that their PPI does cover self- employed people. I said , yes it does now, but it didn't then and I would still like them to investigate it as I believed it was mis-sold to me.
they agreed to do so and sent me the usual letter saying it was being investigated. I was very sceptical, so imagine my surprise when last month, I received a cheque for £5208.
The insurance charge was a mere £600 with whopping £4600 in interest on the Insurance!!! What a rip-off.
I used the money to pay off this and my other card, plus treated myself to a lovely handbag and a Goose -down Duvet!. Thanks a lot Martin!:j0 -

Provider: Barclaycard
Amount claimed: £414
Amount paid : £414
Story: I've been checking this site for a few months reading all the success stories and decided it wouldn't do any harm to give it a go. I must admit the fact that most of the charges were £12 I was slightly put off (due to the ruling made in relation to charges). however I wrote to Barclaycard initially to request a list of all my defaults/ fees, then wrote claiming back the charges using the templates provided and used the interest calculator. Anyway they've just wrote back today offering a full settlement including interest!! Made up, this site is truely a god send. I'm now onto the rest!!0 -
