How about Grolsch bottles? I have used those very successfully for cordials, etc. The labels come off nicely and the bottles are attractive I think. Alternatively, go to France and buy some lemonade, which sometimes comes in attractive swing-top bottles!
Skint but happy with my lovely family

Thanks for the responses everyone, and the food for thought.
Skintbint, thanks for the link to Jamjarshop.co.uk. They're looking like a distinct possibility but I'll check out Asda tonight first and see what their jars are like. (Thanks Pineapple.) I'd rather not have to wait for the jars to be shipped."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

I usually save all my glass jars for when I make jams/jellies and I end up with loads.
I decided to give 1.5oz jam as wedding favours for my wedding next year so needed to buy new jars because nothing comes that small usually. After shopping around I found the cheapest place was http://www.freemanharding.co.uk/.
They delivered very quickly (next day) through fedex and were really good. Only problem is that you usually have to bulk buy (12 to 126) depending on the size of the jar. Still cheap though for lots of jars.0 -
Thanks to this thread (and the greengage tree outside my front door that's looking like a wasp holiday resort) I managed to whip up some greengage jam. I only had about 30 nice ones left, which made enough jam for about 3 normal jars... so instead I got out some of those free glass ramekins that posh deserts come in (I hoard the oddest things...) and used them
(Ta for the brandy and greaseproof paper tip!). I now have 6 nice sized mini jams.
Also - I'm holding the greaseproof paper in place with laggy bands I saved from buying spring onions in winter.
... i think the only thing I had to buy really was the lemon! The sugar was a leftover (me and the OH don't take sugar in our drinks - we only have it for guests).

Hi
I hope this is okay to post here, I had a quick look through other posts but couldnt see what I was after..
I'm going to attempt some chutneys for christmas pressies and I'm after some jars to put them in. We dont use much stuff out of jars so waiting till I have empty ones could take forever! Preferably somewhere on the high street??
Thankson the road to recovery..:o0 -
Hi katydo,
Do you have freecycle or freegle in your area? They are great for picking up empty jars. Also it's worth asking friends and family to save them for you as it's surprising how many they will have.
We have an existing thread that may give you more ideas:

I'll add your thread to that one later once you've had more replies.

Sainsburys basics curry sauce is 22p per jar, I have seen it as low as 9p per jar.
This is rather sadly cheaper than buying empty jars. But is a good way to get started. When you give a jar away as a present always ask the recipient to keep their empties for you and next year you should have a much better supply.
The sauce is quite nice on chips though so freeze and use it another day.

Asda Smart price curry sauce is 9p, guess the sauce maybe carp, but the jars are cheap enough even if you chuck the sauce down the loo
Of course the sauce just may be wonderful, never tasted itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I just cant collect jars quick enough for the preserving I do... it is weird to ask neighbours (hardly know them) - or take some bottle out of their recycling containers on rubbish day???
I tend to give stuff away and I do ask friends to collect but dont live close enough to do regular pick ups!!
any ideas?Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!0
