Whats Good Value At Lidls?
Comments

I think they are a german company?
And although UK Lidls stock one variety of German bread, it is just the stodgy rye bread, which is quite nice if you like that type of bread. In Germany they have a really lovely light bread with sunflower seeds in it, I brought some back with me - but again, not sold here.:mad:
But it works both ways, there are things we have here that are not available there.0 -

Mozerella - I only use for pizza - just cut into small slices and dot over pizza
Cheddar - we like it, we use medium cheddar
Coffee - not keen on their instant to be honest but we mainly drink ground and espresso. These are fine, we only use instant when we're feeling really lazy or for visitors who don't like proper coffee. The best one we've had from Lidls is in a little black jar.0 -

Yup - slice it to add to home-made pizza. Or the classic (but perhaps a little dated) Italian tricolour salad - mozz, sliced tomato and fresh basil. Drizzle with olive oil. Make a mozz, basil & potato bread. Make a pasta sauce - heat tinned toms in olive oil, add herbs & seasoning, add chopped mozz. Cook pasta, mix in sauce, top with parmesan, bake in the oven.Is there instant coffee OK? Im normally a nescafe snob-how do theres measure up?Also, the ham-how much do you get for £1.39?
I have some in the freezer (it freezes beautifully!) - 200gThe cheddar-the same question-quantity and cost?
Vintage Mature Cheddar £2.59. Can't remember the quantity, but can let you know tomorrow, when I've done this quarter's shop. It's the long oblong chunk ... not the little square, squat oneThanks so much

You're welcome. I was a Sainsbury/Waitrose snob until 12 months ago. I've not been to either since I discovered Lidl, but I do need to source some "speciality" stuff elsewhere. However, I'm only an hour from Dover/Folkestone so tend to pop over to France for specialsWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
You can't get Cravendale milk but I can't spot anything there that you couldn't get a replacement for in Lidl.
I spent three years in Germany and cheered when I learned they were opening up in this country. And the joy of being able to buy real German Bratwurst again
I'm waiting for the day when they stock Gyros spice.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I bet you'll see a saving just by shopping at Lidl.
Hope I have made sense.

The only other advise I can give is when to go. Don't go on a Monday or a Thursday morning (unless you want something that's in the specials leaflet, not food but garden or clothes etc...) I go at about 7pm at night and it is much quiter then. My local one has about 6 staff. They only seem to have 3 on at any time so the checkouts are always busy, but everything is closer together and they don't move things around so it is actually qucker for me to do a big shop in Lidl than to get the 1 or 2 bits I need from Asda.
And, don't forget to pick up a leaflet, it has often got the specials on the front i.e camping gear or gardening but there is always food offers inside. Fruit and Veg is always cheaper but seasonal stuff is often 1/2 asda's prices and the quality is so much better, the apples are huge and so are the tomaotes in summer.
I love Lidl (can you tell)

I don't drink coffee but I buy the aramata (or something) there is a picture of a lady (think she's got a basket on her head) on the front picking cooffe beans I think, it is a black jar. I buy that for guests and my Mum say's it's lovely and she drinks Nescafe normally. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

That sounds like the one I buy - I've tried a couple from Lidls and that was the one we preferred. But, as I said before, their ground coffee is much better.0 -
I have become a staunch Lidl convert ...BUT....... I cannot get on with their milk no matter how I try to convince myself it still tastes funny, kind of too fatty.
The other thing I will never buy again is their fresh double cream, bought it three times now, it's ok the first use but by the second one next day it's gone sour, anyone else find this and it has only now come to my head it never dawned on me to complain or return it because they have all been well in code and my fridge temp is ok too.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I only have milk in tea, coffee, cooking etc and can't tell the difference but my kids who drink milk and eat a lot of cereal complain that we've got 'Lidl milk' again.0
