Ouch!
On my stand-by mobile with Smarty SIM replying to SMS text BT Mobile customer survey with "10" and I get "Unable to send:10" and then I get a notification on my mobile that that exact message has been sent, i.e. "Unable to send: 10". That has happened 4 times.
I had just received my PAC from BT Mobile in preparation for moving my main phone to Smarty. I don't know what's happening but SMS texts are very important to me and I cannot go with a network where SMS is unreliable. In this affair it's just too easy to place the blame on BT Mobile and/or the phone which has previously worked faultlessly.
So for me at least Smarty has entered the "Unreliable, unlikely to work" zone. Needless to say I won't be going with Smarty nor Three with my main phone. I like Smarty's tariffs but what price any tariff on a network that doesn't work.

Are you sure you've updated the SMS settings correctly?0

Are you sure you've updated the SMS settings correctly?
That's the first thing I checked and it looks ok. Likely that Smarty's/Three's messaging service is down or not responding due to overload or they changed it very recently. I sent Nokia (Microsoft) an email but I already know the answer: The service is not working.0 -
I've just switched to smarty and wondered if anyone could help me with something. I very rarely use the minutes/texts that come with my package, just data. I'm sure I saw somewhere that I can cancel the unlimited mins/text part of the deal but can't find the info anywhere now. Can I cancel it and just pay for data?

Should be simple just take the auto renew off (on Smarty payments page) then the SIM will not auto renew the monthly pack (mins/text/data) and you will not be billed each month. For just data just add credit then buy the data you need at £1.25/GB and that data has no time limit to use! The phone will still be active to receive calls/texts.
I know will be active for calls/texts for up to 6 months without any monthly pack but you would need to try to see if the added data still works when no pack added (data will always be there but just not sure if will work without a monthly pack or will only able to be used again when next pack applies).Try adding £1.25 GB data then next month do not renew a pack and see if can use that data.'Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway'

Were you trying to reply to 60204 or other short code?
As far as I'm aware, text messages to short codes that are non-premium are generally not included in inclusive tariffs and are charged at around 10p per pop.
https://help.smarty.co.uk/a-guide-to-the-smarty-data-plans/premium-freephone-and-service-numbers:Are there any kinds of text messages that are chargeable?
At some point you'll be able to send other kinds of messages which will be chargeable. Chargeable texts will include:
Premium-rate texts and short-codes, which are used for entering competitions, buying ringtones and voting on reality TV shows and paying for parking.
I don't know if Smarty supports chargeable text messages yet. Presumably, you would have to add a cash balance to your account if you wished to sent messages to such numbers.
I guess if spending money responding to pointless surveys is 'very important' to you, using a different network is better option.0 -

In my experience, Smarty blocks incoming calls and text messages when a plans ends. And I don't think it's possible to use remaining credit or data without an active plan.
Smarty probably isn't the best option for mustbemad.0 -
Thanks all, looks like I'll be switching again after my free month, oh well.

Call/text should work for 6 months. I asked them about this before if I ever did not need the plan for a month but just wanted incoming. They confirmed would work. Works like most phone monthly packs. However, I do not know about data as that would be a usable service so not sure if a pack would need to be enabled to activate data. Can ask on the Smarty Chat.'Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway'
