Only 1 of my items was junk, the rest were business letters bank statements subscription updates etc. I had no 'personal' mail.

No post for me today (Huddersfield). I take it our posties are still striking. I read on the Royal Mail website that more industrial action is planned from Monday to Friday next week. It did say that it would only affect certain parts of the country on certain days - can anyone shed anymore light?

it will be rolling IA.so for example monday the HGV drivers are out so little mail transport, tuesday the big mail centres, wednesday the delivery offices.
note those are examples,i havent checked the true break down but will try and get them

I know a small sample isn't statistically significant, but 6 people I know have received only junk mail, at about the usual time.

Where do you reckon the backlog is? I thought I'd see a loaded postie running a bit late today.

all over the system unfortunatly.all i got was a 2nd class junk letter today.
the DO's should be targetting 1st & 2nd class items 1st where possible and leaving the likes of mailsort.
however it depends if that mail has been seperated fully.once its out for sorting in the DO's then its sorted.
in some offices it could have been quiet waiting on mail coming through, tomorrow they could be rammed.

for people getting mail earlier/later the postie may have to change the way the duty is done with the later starts to catch things like businesses, before 1pm items, entry buzzer systems
  • All i got today was a statement for a catalogue, and abit of junk. The posty came at about 1pm... he is usually here at 11am

yeah sounds about right for the new start times
  • So is the posty going to come at 1pm every day now then custardy?? as that would be no good for me!! (not that its your fault lol)
He used to come at 11am, and that was good, cause I could wait for him, then still be out the house by 12pm to go to the park/shopping etc (im a stay at home mum) but if hes going to start coming at 1pm i will always have to wait indoors :-( We have parcels being delivered most days, I'm not liking this!

Well we had a postal delivery all the way through the strike - every day some woman I'd never seen before (not our usual postie) delivered a small amount of junk through the letterbox. I think she might have been a manager or something, although she might as well not have bothered for the type of mail she was delivering.

I feel rather guilty being part of an area that was strike-breaking - I'm with the postal workers, I wanted to try and catch the post woman and ask her not to deliver! I never managed to predict when she would arrive though.

    Sorry Custardy!

i wouldnt bother,if someone wants to work through the strike its their right.
most likely its a postie from another delivery area working in an area they are not known.
i know some more militant posties would string them up ;) BUT people need to realise a lot of posties are going in early, using their own cars on delivery, not taking breaks etc and this may be hurting the posties.
for example offices where people have stopped using their own cars have discovered they dont have enough vans/drivers to get all the mail/posties out.
so it shows the office has cut duties artificialy with posties using their own cars.you are only covered 3rd party by RM and get no tax/wage benifit for this.
these are the kind of things that the union wants addressed(no pun intended) as RM can use the offices using cars to cut jobs that shouldnt be.
some offices have duties set up for people so that they can only be done using a car!

yup, most likely.this is the knock on of the later starts.in my office it changes during the week between 5.40am and 6.40am(used to be 5am) so its even worse as people will have no idea whats going on.it may even get later.
the only thing you could do is order via special delivery as 1pm is too tight for your postie to be sure so most likely items would come by a van duty.
every office is different because of geographical/population differences. some posties have finish times of 2.30pm or later now

im off just now but when i go back i'll have fun.i dliver to a fairly rough bit and have had a fair few run ins with the 'wheres my giro squad 'and i know the later times will inflame this.
always a gigle when i see them getting a taxi up the road after i deliver it
