I had the misfortune to catch the end of homes live on BBC 1 today.
A caller phoned in for some advice....
"We wondering whether we should buy our council house?"
The reply ( with NO other queries from the first expert. you know like: " do you have a job?" )
"Absolutely.""A goldfish left Lincoln logs in me sock drawer!"
"That's the story of JESUS."0 -
about 10 months ago a friend who runs his own carpentry business asked if i would wade in with him & buy his moms house in a warkwickshire village just 4 miles fron stratford and renovate/ loft conversion, I decided not too...& boy am i gald !!!! It now looks lovely but he has had to reduce the price by 50K & still cant shift it, IMO it wasnt badly priced before !!! Prices are not reducing dramatically becasue most sellers appear reluctant to reduce them !!! But there seem to a lot of unrealistically priced property around at the moment..somethings gonna give soon !!!0

In light of the recent "crash" threads which have had more emphasis due to the recent Northern Rock Debacle, can I just say i hope the people currently locked in rented accommodation due to the high prices ie macaque, carolt etc the best of luck with a downturn. I know you are desperate to buy a home and hopefully with the constant crash threads a change in sentiment might occur triggering a price crash then we can all live happily ever after and buy a home. Amen. (Mr Broderick)
Just wanted to say that was very thoughtful of you old chap....but there must be some mistake? I'm not locked in rented accommodation due to the high prices. On the contrary, my rented accommodation is both reasonably priced AND gives me the flexibility to move without having to worry about whether my house will sit on the market failing to sell, whilst I slowly lower my asking price, nervously starting threads on Why is my house not selling???? and failing to sleep at night worrying about my hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of debt and increasing negative equity. Making me, in fact, locked into my bank-owned accommodation.
I post here not to gloat - it's too early to do that but I admit I might want a little gloat one day... but because making the decision NOT to buy in a world that for the last ten years has been screaming BUY, BUY, BUY, PRICES ONLY EVER GO UP! from every rooftop, was a difficult one, but I am convinced correct not just for me personally but for many others in my situation.
If by posting on here I can maybe help one fellow individual avoid a lot of heartache over negative equity - and I do remember individuals going through it the last time round, and it wasn't pleasant - then I think my posts here have a point.
Plus I hate bullsh1t- and people who can STILL, with all the current news around, post Ooh, property can only ever go up threads really annoy me!0 -
Stands to reason that sooner or later there is going to be a massive property crash. The debt that many people have incurred is unbelievable - I even think that this factor will ultimately have a hugely negative effect on the economy as a whole, which is rather like a giant stack of cards that's about to come tumbling down. How could this 'government' allow such a thing to happen???
Seems to me that the self-serving rulers of our country care for little more than their own vested interests. And don't even get me started on pensions (theirs versus the majority of the population) - as well as other issues. I find the whole New Labour pack dishonest and distasteful.
(And I'm speaking as a home owner with no vested interest.)0 -

Thatcher and Major didn`t seem to loose a lot of sleep when folks were being kicked out of their homes in the early 90`s.I wish more people would think about that period.I saw many loose business and homes. The whole thing was very depressing.
Very high house prices and personal debt, imho, can only end in disaster.I know quite a lot of folks whos shoes I really would not want to be in right now and to talk to them they speak utter b£$%£"ks!!!!
I will give just one example.Guy,late 40`s.Borrows the deposit,purchases a 3 story new build@ around £160k.(He lives alone).Income approx.£30 to £35k a year.looses job,now on approx. £13k a year.
He has been advised to struggle on with the mortgage``keep it for a few years and then sell at a tidy profit``.Couldn`t make it up!0
