On 11 May 2017, the Council adopted an implementing decision setting out a recommendation to prolong temporary internal border controls in exceptional circumstances.
As from this date, when the previous decision expires, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway may prolong proportionate temporary border controls for a maximum period of six months at the following internal borders:- Austria at the Austrian-Hungarian land border and Austrian-Slovenian land border
- Germany at the German-Austrian land border
- Denmark in the Danish ports with ferry connections to Germany and at the Danish-German land border
- Sweden in the Swedish harbours in the Police Region South and West and at the Öresund bridge
- Norway in the Norwegian ports with ferry connections to Denmark, Germany and Sweden

Schengen and FoM is only one of the four freedoms when it suits.0 -

Why is your marvellous, non-laughing stock EU putting up these new barriers? As you can see from the list some are between EU nations - but trust you to filter that out
You say the UK is the nasty little intolerant laughing-stock place. You imply the EU is a bastion of tolerance and non-laughing stock, civilised credibility0 -

If we took a step back we'd probably agree this was a pragmatic step to take to deal with, hopefully, short-term exceptional circumstances. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Also if it did not ignore other examples, for example border closures between Italy & France at Ventemiglia.Migrants arrive in Ventimiglia to then reach France, but the only alternative they have is to cross the border illegally and via dangerous routes; among them there are many pregnant women, entire families, and unaccompanied minors. The border closure, a lack of places providing adequate hospitality, and no access to basic facilities and healthcare are added layers to an exhausting situation migrants in transit have been experiencing for months, or even years.
So, pragmatic?
Hardly!
As usual with the EU, self interest comes first and bu@@er the lives of those on the other side of the fence.0 -

In practice, there seems to be, provided the incomers arrive in a mass large enough to swamp the usual immigration channels.0 -

Those steps back can be difficult.A_Medium_Size_Jock wrote: »As usual with the EU, self interest comes first and bu@@er the lives of those on the other side of the fence.
That's pretty ironic. You don't want those on the other side of the fence getting in and you certainly don't want them arriving in the UK.
Tougher controls at EU borders and methods to restrict the travel of people who should be processed at their first safe landing is something I would've thought you'd support. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. So your wondrous non-laughing stock, non xenophobic EU seems to be putting up razor wire to keep others out.
The Visegrad group doesn't like refugees. Germany, Holland and others have lurched far more to the than the UK right politically (Dutch Conservative election narratives far more pungent than anything UK Tory part would have used).
But Britain is the inward looking intolerant laughing stock.....0
