I don't want to say what the collectibles are....it is his stuff not mine. It's nothing dodgy though. (Not actually that interesting either to the majority of people if I'm honest!)
It is a huge amount of stuff though - far more than moving your average house. Even a big house.
I am getting more quotes, from both ends. Also looking into buying a van as we'll be splitting our time between London and Yorkshire till at least Christmas anyway so will be travelling up and down. The man and van scenario is also possible and we know of a couple of brilliant guys with a van. So I'm sure we'll figure something.
If we bought a van, I am even trying to persuade my other half that instead of flogging it afterwards, we could have it converted to a camper!!! If we have any cash left!
Anyway, thank you for all the input! I think I felt a bit stuck when I got the first quote and you have all made me think more creatively about it.0 -
Now we want to know even more!!!0

I'll have to ask him if I'm allowed to say!0

Are these genuine "collectables" or just glorified junk? Iconoclastic I know, but a lot of so-called "collectables" are just overhyped, mass produced, space consuming dust collectors.
(I'm on one of my de-clutter phases!)If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I'm not interested in what the collectibles are but what's the point in having them locked up in storage? Surely the items should be displayed and enjoyed? Not judging, just wondering.
Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

This is definitely the way to go with your move.
I would not pay £15k to any removal man is he called D**k Turpin who gave you this quote?0 -

200sqft is a full size removal lorry, so the op needs 3, that's 3 drivers, 3 lorrys, 400 miles each.
I agree more quotes are needed, but lets be realistic, OP has a LOT of stuff, and will pay accordingly.
Not just 3 drivers ,will need porters as well
But £15000.00 has to be a typo
I own a removal companyVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
200 sq feet by how tall?
Have you considered hiring a 7.5 ton van yourself for a week and moving it yourself in however many trips it needs? That's what we did when moving from Oxford to the Highlands. I had to negotiate a hire without a mileage charge to make it work.0 -
We moved last week, about 30 miles from one part of rural Devon to another. We had a lot of stuff, the items from the attic alone took up a whole double bedroom. We upsized from a 3 bedroomed mid terrace to a 3 bed/3 reception farmhouse so didn't throw anything away. We packed that and the removal firm did the rest and filled 2 medium sized vans. The firm we used were amazing. Everything went like clockwork and they turned up at the new house 2 hours early.
We used a firm that was recommended by friends who have a large house and a lot of very valuable furniture and collectibles. We paid £1600 which I thought a bit expensive but after the move was over decided it was worth every penny.
Moral here, use a professional mover who packs. Far less grief.:D0
