Have you had quotes from both areas? Do you have family down there, could you not put some into storage and just move the necessities first? then the collectibles later on visits?
  • Quotes from West Yorkshire will be cheaper than quotes from London.

So I could bring a load up each time!

Why don't you buy a van to drive. Would be cheaper.
  • We moved from Essex to Wales and paid £2800 for a 4 bed house (with a lot of stuff!), including a week's storage. (although, I wish w'ed gone for the better reputation in hindsight....)

We did have quotes up to £5000, over two days with 2 large lorries. £15000 seems a lot!

£15k sounds OTT, although that is a load of stuff

We have lots of stuff/collections plus masses of very large garden planters with huge plants. Of our last three moves - all around 200 miles - we have paid professionals £4300 and £3500, whilst the other we DIYed. The professional moves didn't include a packing service, but did include export wrapping for some large, fragile, antique furniture, one piece that was valued at £4k.

Our last move took five days - three to load the three huge lorries and two to offload.

The DIY move we hired the largest van we could - Luton? - and it took seven loads to get it all from a to b over the course of a week. What with hire costs and fuel, we spent over £1000, probably closer to £1250. With the benefit of hindsight, had we realised it would take that many journeys we would have booked a week's van hire, but instead booked it on a daily rate which obviously cost more.

I'd agree with the 'leave it in the storage units and move it at your leisure' suggestion. Last move we decanted some of our less important stuff into a large storage unit ahead of moving and went back for it in a hire van once we'd been settled into our new house a while.

3x200sqft units must be costing £450 a month with insurance,

this is how storage companies make their money

'leave it in the storage units and move it at your leisure'

    becomes

'we'll get around to it later'

    which becomes

'I cant remember ever NOT having the storage units!'

OP if, you go down that route, have a plan on when you'll have them empty, and stick to it!

How many van loads is there?
Hire that many man and van(s)? (no idea if there is a plural).

    £500 each and 4 vans is £2k.

It doesn't sound completely ridiculous - removals in and around London are far more expensive. We moved a small 3 bed flat about 6 miles, in a Luton van, that cost £800 and we had quotes up to £1500. It took just over half a day, so multiplying it up for the journey time/an overnight and 3 full size removal lorries it's easily in that ballpark.

Am I the only one wondering what all these collectibles are?
