Last night i was telling my Daughter about this cost as she works in the removal business and she was a little shocked to say the least.

He first reaction was that is was a job they really didn't want so put a stupid price in to make you run away from them.

She also pointed out that because you had already packed the goods up no removal company with give you any insurance for any damaged caused, which makes sense

It isn't a typo it is simple - they don't want the job! Although why some trades do that and don't just say , No thanks, is beyond me.

OP you have not addressed the possible typo. Is it really £15k you have been quoted?

Three storage units of unidentified material. I bet it's the correct figure.

There's 2 removal companies that's like the reverse of eBay - I'd try them. It shouldn't be £15k, that is ludicrous

I always hate not hearing the end result of a thread if I've given advice so since you all kindly gave us your ideas, I thought I'd tell you what we ended up doing.

We only just moved as our original purchase fell through. Ended up with a property nearby but up a long private road which is more of a track.

We planned to buy a van then have it converted to a camper but the house we've bought needs work so I doubt we'll be doing any campervan holidays for a while. So we rented a van instead. Well, two. We hired a 7.5 ton van for three days, doing two trips. Cost £297 plus another £245 in fuel. This van wouldn't go up our lane so we used a friend's smaller van to ferry loads up and down. It was a lit of hard work but in one weekend, we shifted over half the stuff with the help of friends.

We shifted the rest in a hired lwb ford transit. Cost £285 for a week plus £420 in fuel. A lot of time on the motorway but this van would go up our road to our front door.

So £1247 as opposed to £15000. A bit more if you count all the Snickers bars, chocolate digestives and bags of crisps that we ate along the way. We didn't spend anthing at motorway services either. I did a Morrison's shop the day before, stocking up on snacks for the journey, sandwich making supplies, and ingredients for fast dinners for all those evenings when we got home exhausted.

Nothing got broken either. Something of a miracle when you think my hubby manages to break one of my mugs on an almost weekly basis!

So thanks again for all your advice. Am now heading over to the DIY board as we've a house to do up!!!
