Corsa VXR... it's mad!

Are they factory or aftermarket tints. He'll probably need to declare them to his insurer and he might find his policy void if they're actually illegal.

I'm assuming they're aftermarket, we're going to get them looked at as soon as possible.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Your being a little pedantic.
To clarify, you can probably tint them 5% more than standard. Come with 65%, can tint to 70%
So my statement is true and you are splitting hairs over a 5% tolerance.
The guidance and "theme" of my post is still correct. They are illegal and I was politely suggesting the OP suggests to his son to get them checked/removed or at the minimum declared to his insurance.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. To the troll talking about road deaths from fast cars... in my experience it is people with normal cars ragging them like a rally car that end up crashing, rather than the people who drive cars designed to go fast.
Sportier cars / performance cars have: -
Bigger brakes - shorter stopping distances. Only last night I nearly had a head on collision with some moron overtaking on a blind bend on a narrow road. Fortunately my fiesta ST has excellent brakes and slamming them on I could stop before he hit me and swerved out of the way. In my old car I probably would have had a collision.
They have better acceleration, which makes them safer when overtaking as you spend less time in the other lane, or if there's a potential hazard you can accelerate out of the way.
And they have better grip, i.e. they are designed to be driven faster. In other words you'll be safer in a sports car at 100mph than you would be in a 1.0 corsa at 100mph.
Now I'm not encouraging anyone to drive dangerously, but I don't believe for one second that a car designed to be driven hard is more dangerous than one that's not.
The ride is firm but it's not crashy so you get used to it and it's not an issue. At higher speeds it's much more comfortable and softer. It only feels firm at low speed.Had a ride in a colleagues Fiesta ST. Went very well indeed, and full of toys, but useless around here, the ride is appalling, pretty much had to hold my manly belly to stop it vibrating.
It needs a proper flat surfaced road, or tyres with some sort of sidewall.....0 -

Hope you didn't hurt your back moving those goalposts.:rotfl:0 -

You have it the wrong way round.
The 70% is how much light they need to let through, not how much the tint % is.
65% would be illegal and not standard. It would need to start off with 75%
I've ran light tints over my factory tints up front for years. Traffic police have seen them countless times but never bothered as they're not that dark
Declared to the insurance of course. All your base are belong to us.0 -
If fast cars were safer they would have cheaper insurance. Sounds like the OPs son isn't insured at all because he hasn't declared a modification. If he kills someone at least the CPS will have some ammunition to put him away for a while.0

Sometimes they do
I've had some slow standard cars that had high insurance and some highly modified performance cars that were cheaper to insure.
Don't let some facts get in your way of trying to berate everyone though

It's like the motability thread all over again (remember that old chestnut?). People make sensisble points and Fred trolls.0
