    ok question time please.
i have been loving this thread and want to try sooo many flavours, but most of the people i buy for are not that keen on vodka, would this sort of thing work with bacardi or gin or even maybe tequila?
i take it it needs to be a clear spirit?
    and will basics ranges do?
    thanks

  • wow, fantastic thread....I am sat hee droolng of what I am going to buy tomorrow. Pear drops was my firm favourite, but the idea of cough candy twists may be the winner.. What about koff kops, do you think that they would work?

made toblerone vodka, chilli vodka, sloe gin and damson gin .. the sloe and damson gins are both doing well, the chilli vodka blew my OH's head off tonight (and he's part indonesian, loves chillis), he said it was great and i must make some more but um.. i think three scotch bonnet chillis might've been a mistake for anyone else. (mental note: one of them for dad's chilli..). however the toblerone vodka is the real star. it takes a while to dissolve but its smooth and rich and.. SERIOUSLY yum. it reminds me of that cadbury's liquor.. gonna buy more vodka and make more of this for sure!!! going to experiment with different chocolates.. after eights.. cadbury's orange.. you get the idea. OH wants me to try some of the other suggestions from a link someone posted earlier on this thread.. black pepper vodka.. some of the herb schnapps maybe.

i have a feeling december is going to be a very nice alcoholic haze.. :D

Quackers - i don't know the size, but it was around 20cm long, that bar. I kept 2 triangles for OH and put the rest in. Its taking ages to dissolve so i might've put too much in - try half.. you can always put more in.

Northernlass - i honestly don't know. I can only say: try, but be prepared to throw it away.. i would use cheap whisky.. maybe a minature or the next one up, or a couple minatures in a bottle. that way if does go funny you haven't lost a £10-15 bottle of whisky. let me know how it goes though!!

Hi, hope you all don't mind another question!? A couple of flavours mentioned sound really nice but the person I want to make them for is not all that much of a drinker, so I would like to do a little selection of small bottles.

Any idea where I can get some small (bigger than a miniature, maybe 400ml or so?) attractive bottles suitable for this purpose, at a reasonable price please?

    Thanks in advance!! :)

I've saved some bottles from Sainsbury's that their Taste the Difference cordial comes in. It's not cheap - £1.99 or so, but the few times I've treated myself to their rasberry or rhubarb and Ginger cordial, I've kept the bottles as they are ideal size.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Just thought id let you all know I made werthers vodka yesterday.
At first we only used two packets of toffees and it was just to vodkery and strong, so we put in another 3 !!!!
OMG it was gorgeous, so creamy :D
We ended up drinking the whole bottle between 2 of us !
We drank it out of little shot glasses.
We left it in the freezer for about 3 hours, the toffees had not completely dissolved but we just couldnt wait to drink it :D
Just want to say thanks for all the recipies on here i would never have done it without reading this thread. But that means you are all responsible for the huuuuge hangover i got today :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Gonna try some more flavours next week

I bought these from Wares of Knutsford (very good for traditional style baking equipment) a couple weeks ago. Ordered on the sunday, Tuesday they arrived - and this was at the height of the postal strike!! Very impressed. Anyway, they're attractive square bottles.. they do different sizes, so you can pick what size you like. I had the same problem, either they're not big drinkers or i want to make a selection of flavours of alcohol and can't afford to give them all big bottles.. lol.
