The losing supplier has 6 weeks from the date of the actual transfer to raise a Final Bill. Repayment of any credit will then follow. In most cases, the process is a lot quicker; however, they have to wait until your meter readings are validated which can take 5 to 10 days.
or 7 months if you move to Iresa :p

Yes: I still bear the scars from my Iresa experience.

There really is one big negative, no impartial reviews. Every review praises how good they are and ends the review with "oh and my referral link is xxx". So in my opinion every reviewer is not telling their true experience, but rather one likely to get people to use their referral link. Yes it may be what you believe, but from my viewpoint the chance of getting £50 is highly influential.

As to how cheap, well they are charging £100 more than they need to, to cover both referral fees, so that must have been factored into their pricing. Either that or they are doing an initial loss-leader in the hope in a month or so when they've grown the customer base the price will increase.

In addition bulb isn't my cheapest (in west yorks) even if the £50 is taken into consideration - and the cynic in me believes that's because I have to pay for the £50 given to the referrer too
  • Yes Nic, I totally know what you're saying and agree. It's a marvellous advertising trick to get people to talk highly about a company. Everyone's trying to get you to use your referral code....Of course, who doesn't want a free £50 to start winter off with?!

However, what I would say is that Bulb are using their Marketing budget in a way that does actually profit their customers. Millions are spent on the Big 6 budgets so I find it quite refreshing that they are trying a different approach. They are a very new small company so hats off to them for attracting so many new customers.

For me personally, I did a huge amount of research on energy companies before I switched. I can honestly say, even though I did share your cynicism, I have been very impressed with every area of 'Bulb' so far. (please note there are no referral codes anymore, I am given you my honest opinion). I am also interested to hear what company you have found cheaper, as I am too in West Yorkshire. Your usage will obviously be different to mine, but once I'd calculated all my actual usage with all the correct standing charges etc for the whole year, they came out a few pounds cheaper. The £50 credit was just a cherry on the cake. And anyways, the main reason I was attracted to them in the first place is the fact that their electricity is 100% renewable which I didn't find in any of the big boys. :((

So once again I do agree with part of what you're saying. There's some reviews on trust pilot that have been reposted several times a day; obviously just trying to grab all the referral codes. But and a very big but, most of my research was elsewhere and I have been thoroughly impressed. It's good to question and doubt but not to cut of your nose to spite your face in the process. (meant in good spirits:))
  • Just to add that 'Iresa' did come up a bit cheaper than Bulb on the comparison sites but I'm taking everyones advice on here. Thank you

I looked into switching to Bulb from Scottish Power but sadly due to the meter I have, three readings, I wasn't able to but I would recommend Bulb purely on the email contact and telephone contact I did have with them which was very friendly and helpful. The guy on the phone said because of my meter I may have to try switching with one of the big 6 and wished me good luck with my dealings with Scottish Power :D

Scottish Power shifted me to standard tarriff a year and a half ago without informing me and have now shifted me to another tarriff in an attempt to close my complaint with them, however I have just started while I look into the enormous amount of money of mine they have had for a two bed, terraced cottage some £200 a month DD and bills that are incomprehensible.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I had contacted the Cheap Energy Club about my switch problem to OVO due to the gas meter postcode error.

They advised that OVO don't have to stick to the original price because of the industry rejection. I feel this is unfair as I had no knowledge or control over the updating of the meter database. The county postcode change was made to my billing by BG many years ago.

CEC also say the database change could take weeks despite the BG agent changing it on her screen.

It looks like I will be with OVO for electricity from Oct 4th and gas with BG for maybe a month.

Am I right in thinking the biggest BG increase was electricity so I would be better off anyway even if I fail to switch gas from BG?

Finally, BG took a separate direct debit for each energy supply but it seems that OVO are going to take a single joint payment. Can anyone confirm this please? ( Before the switch problem OVO said my dd would be £100 pm which equals the joint energy payment I was expecting)

    TIA

Just posted and got an email from OVO. Postcode changed and gas switch on 10th October if BG complete their end!

When I last checked my OVO switch a few days ago it had the block on the gas switch now sorted and saying they would be requesting an electricity meter reading.

Today it say: "We haven't had your opening readings
Since we didn’t get your opening readings in the 10-day window we’ve given you, we’ll use estimated readings for your first statement. This is the amount of energy we think you’re using based on previous consumption, rather than what you’re actually using.

This can take between 4 and 6 weeks, so please hang in there. We’ll send your first OVO statement as soon as everything’s sorted."

A bit glitchy as no meter readings were requested!?

    Anyone else had this please?

Update: Now online account says to give Electricity reading in 7 days time and gas in 13 days time although it still has the above paragraph about not giving the readings.

Although it says switching complete on 10th Oct it also says "Your energy's now with OVO"

    TIA

OVO online account also says that the DD is setup and they have sent an email about it.

    It isn't and they haven't?
